Höegh orders six additional Aurora class vessels

0

Höegh Autoliners ASA is pleased to announce that it has decided to order six additional new dual-fuel LNG and zero-carbon-ready Aurora class vessels for delivery in 2029–2031.

This decision will extend Höegh Autoliners’ Aurora class newbuilding program to a total of eighteen vessels, all of which will be built by China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. (CMHI).
The company has received highly attractive terms reflecting our strong relationship with the yard, scale benefits and favorable economics of building repeat vessels.

Höegh Autoliners has further secured an option to build four additional vessels on the same terms, as well as slot reservations for another four vessels at the same yard.

The option vessels may be exercised within six months, while the four slot reservations are held for the Company, with notice to be given on or before 31 December 2027. This decision allows Höegh Autoliners to accelerate its green fleet renewal programme, with flexibility to extend the programme up to a total of twenty-six Aurora vessels, including the twelve vessels already delivered or on order.

The Aurora vessels will have DNV’s ammonia and methanol ready notation, with the main engine provided by Everllence and the bridge system supplied by Kongsberg Maritime. With the capacity to carry up to 9,100 cars, the Aurora class is reducing carbon emissions by up to 58% compared to conventional PCTCs.
The further expansion of our newbuild program is providing an opportunity to fully anchor our green leadership position. The newbuilds retain future ammonia-conversion flexibility.

Andreas Enger, CEO of Höegh Autoliners, said: “The Aurora class newbuilds have demonstrated very strong earnings potential, carbon performance, cargo flexibility and future-proof conversion capability. Through our newbuild programme, we secure capacity costs at a competitive level, supporting profitable operations even during potential periods of lower freight rates. Further expanding our fleet strengthens our ability to capture growth in the Asian market and meet evolving customer demand, while giving us greater strategic flexibility, supporting long-term fleet renewal and positioning us to capture commercial opportunities in the years ahead.”

Bertling Singapore delivers critical components to Darwin

0

Bertling Singapore team was recently tasked with an urgent hand-carry shipment of 125 kg of critical components from Malaysia to Darwin, supporting an offshore natural gas project.

The shipment consisted of seven cartons and needed to reach the project site by the following morning. The request came in with only a few hours to spare, requiring the team to arrange the collection, secure the flight and coordinate customs clearance within the same day.

The components were needed for an onward vessel departure from Darwin on Friday afternoon. Missing the sailing could have meant an additional eight-day delay to the offshore delivery, potentially affecting the project schedule.

With the deadline approaching, our Singapore team coordinated the entire operation closely, keeping the shipment moving through each stage and resolving challenges as they arose.

The result: all seven cartons were delivered safely, right on schedule, and ready for the next leg of their journey offshore.

This shipment is a great example of how speed, coordination and local expertise can make a difference when there is no room for delay.

Successful project logistics means more than moving cargo A to B. It means understanding the deadline, anticipating the challenges and making sure every part of the operation works together to get the job done.

For urgent shipments where time is critical, B.Express is our fastest airfreight service, giving your cargo the highest priority.

HOPA’s CEO releases statement

0

This weekend brought bad news, but not new news — not to HOPA, nor Ontario’s port cities.

We put our response into action when it became clear the future would look very different. Where we’re from, in Ontario’s industrial heartland, we know resilience and hard work. And we know that economic success belongs to those willing to step up and seize opportunity.

As Ontario’s port network, HOPA is going where Canada needs to go, now: strengthening domestic supply chains, backing Canadian industry, and creating new opportunities for growth.

In Hamilton, we’re helping a modern agri-food and food-processing cluster take shape, bringing producers, processors, transportation and markets together, shoring up domestic food security.

Building on Hamilton’s steel city grit, we are creating new opportunities to re-shore industrial capacity in strategic manufacturing.

Canada is re-emerging as a global leader in nuclear technology, and HOPA is proactively helping to connect the industrial sites, manufacturers, suppliers and transportation networks the sector needs to scale.

At the Port of Oshawa, we’re strengthening the supply chains that build Canada, from housing and infrastructure to manufacturing — and understanding how these same capabilities can underpin the defence sector.

And in Sault Ste. Marie, HOPA is proposing something Northern Ontario needs: a modern port connecting northern resource regions with southern Ontario’s manufacturing and consumer markets. That connection will open new domestic and overseas markets for value-added forest products, steel, mining and critical minerals.

This is what a port authority is built to do: turn industrial and trade infrastructure into national prosperity. Canada needs stronger connections between its regions, resources, manufacturers and markets. It needs supply chains that allow the country to be its own best customer while diversifying abroad.

There is work ahead for all of us. In Canada’s industrial port cities, the lift is heavier. But we are strong, the path is clear, and we’re already making it happen.

Baltic Shipping welcomes two new vessels

0

Baltic Shipping Company A/S has welcomed two new vessels, M/V Baltic Iron and M/V Baltic Timber, strengthening its fleet with two next-generation coasters featuring wind-assisted propulsion and battery technology.

Both 3,550 DWT vessels are equipped with two Econowind VentoFoils, expected to reduce fuel consumption by up to 12%.

Both vessels are also fitted with large battery packs, making them genuine hybrid vessels. M/V Baltic Timber was the first of the two vessels to enter service and has now been joined by sister vessel M/V Baltic Iron. Both vessels are now in commercial operation under the company’s management.

The arrival of the two vessels enables Baltic Shipping Company to respond to customers with a strong focus on reducing their transport-related CO₂ emissions. The company can now offer them access to a new generation of more energy-efficient coaster vessels.

“We are very proud to welcome Baltic Iron and Baltic Timber to our fleet,” said Ronnie Hulstrøm, CEO of Baltic Shipping Company A/S. “Having recently visited Baltic Iron, I am deeply impressed by both the vessel and the technology installed on board. The combination of VentoFoils and a large battery pack represents an important step towards more energy-efficient shipping. It demonstrates what can already be achieved with technologies available today.”

The VentoFoils use wind to generate additional thrust, reducing the power required from the main engine and thereby lowering fuel consumption and associated CO₂ emissions. Combined with the vessels’ battery technology, the system provides Baltic Shipping Company with a practical way to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions in daily operations.

“Our customers are increasingly focused on reducing the CO₂ emissions associated with their transport,” Hulstrøm added. “With Baltic Iron and Baltic Timber, we can offer them modern coaster capacity that supports these ambitions. It is a practical step that supports both our customers and our long-term commitment to more sustainable shipping operations.”

With the Damen-built Baltic Iron and Baltic Timber now in service, Baltic Shipping Company has strengthened its fleet with two modern, energy-efficient vessels for the European shortsea market.

Baltic Shipping Company A/S is a Danish maritime company specializing in European short-sea shipping. With around 95 dry cargo vessels under commercial management and charter, the company provides chartering, ship management, vessel operations, project cargo and port services across Europe.

1UP Cargo manages multi-shipment project

0

1UP Cargo are proud to report a recent multi-shipment RORO project, moving heavy equipment with speed, precision, and expertise from Fremantle in Australia, to Bauan Port, Philippines.

They successfully managed a series of four RORO shipments consisting of oversized mining equipment. The complex, high-value movements required meticulous planning, technical expertise, and flawless execution.

Across the four project shipments, the 1UP Cargo team coordinated the movement of: 152.8tn of mining equipment; 465.71cbm of project cargo; 4 specialized RORO sailings.

The cargo included rebuilt underground mining equipment, wheel loaders, and heavy drilling machinery, each presenting unique logistical challenges and demanding precise coordination to meet strict vessel schedules.

Omid Jay Ahmadi (1UP General Manager) comments; “One of the standout achievements was the turnaround time. Confirmation for the final shipment was received on 14 July, and the cargo was successfully loaded onboard just three days later on 17 July. Delivering specialised RORO cargo within such a tight timeframe takes more than speed – it demands experience, trusted partnerships, and operational excellence.”

From origin operations in Australia to the successful discharge at Bauan Port, Philippines, every shipment was moved seamlessly, safely, and on schedule. This project reflects 1UP Cargo’s ability to manage complex project cargo with confidence and deliver certainty where precision matters most.

“At 1UP Cargo, we don’t just move oversized freight, we deliver confidence, one project at a time.”

Crowley launches new weekly container service

0

Crowley, a global leader in logistics, marine and energy solutions, today announced a new weekly container service connecting Port Houston to Santo Tomás de Castilla, Guatemala, and Puerto Cortés, Honduras – two of Central America’s largest and fastest-growing trade gateways.

The Gulf-Central America Express Service makes its first Houston call on Sept. 10 with Thursday departures. Crowley’s vessels will carry dry and refrigerated containers that safely transport a range of fresh produce, apparel, industrial products and consumer goods from sea to land. The range of sizes includes 53-foot containers that maximize intermodal efficiency in the markets.

Central American exports to the United States grew 15.7% in year-over-year shipments in early 2026, driven largely by demand for fresh produce, according to the Inter-American Development Bank.

“A direct Houston connection provides a reliable, efficient logistics solution for U.S.-Central American supply chains,” said Claudia Kattan, vice president for Central America, Mexico and Panama at Crowley. “Shippers get faster transits, improved inventory planning and the flexibility to move fresh produce, consumer goods and other time-sensitive cargo without the delays of transshipments.”

Port Houston is home to one of the nation’s top five and fastest-growing container ports, commanding approximately 75% of U.S. Gulf container volume. The port’s scale and inland connectivity give Central American exporters direct access to Texas, Midwest and West Coast markets, strengthening supply chain reliability for U.S. retailers.

“We are proud to welcome Crowley’s Gulf-Central America Express Service to Port Houston,” said John Moseley, chief commercial officer for Port Houston. “This new weekly call gives shippers a direct, reliable connection to Houston and two important Central American gateways, expanding choice for customers moving refrigerated and dry cargo through Houston.”

Beyond providing another option for shippers, the service will connect Houston more directly to the food, products and commercial activity moving between Central America and the United States.

“The impact of this service will extend well beyond the docks,” said Charlie Jenkins, CEO of Port Houston. “It creates a more direct path for fresh produce and everyday goods to reach stores and families across our region, while helping Texas businesses connect with customers in Central America. That is what growth at Port Houston does: create opportunity and make the supply chains people rely on work better.”

Crowley’s expansion builds on the company’s long-standing presence in Caribbean and Central America, where it has maintained an integrated inland logistics network for more than 65 years. By combining ocean transportation with warehousing and inland services through a single provider, businesses can reduce handoffs and improve supply chain visibility, a key advantage for retailers efficiently managing product inventory and shelf-life cycles.

Purpose-built to support the dynamic needs of customers, Crowley’s container vessels offer space for dry, refrigerated and project cargo, including 40- and 45-foot dry and refrigerated containers, 53-foot dry containers and 20- and 40-foot flat-rack equipment. The Crowley network of terminals, warehousing and supply chain solutions united U.S., Central American and Caribbean ports such as the Dominican Republic.

Following the severe damage caused by Tropical Cyclone Narelle in March 2026, Bertling Australia managed a complex emergency logistics operation to transport hundreds of critical fin fan blades from multiple U.S. suppliers to regional Western Australia.

As the scope rapidly expanded from two emergency charters to multiple international shipments, our experienced local team in Perth adapted in real time – consolidating cargo from different suppliers, navigating quarantine requirements for both new and used equipment, overcoming regional airport limitations, and developing tailored solutions to keep the project moving. Every decision was driven by one objective: restoring the customers’ operations as quickly as possible.

Volume: Hundreds of fin fan blades transported via multiple emergency air charters (7 full charters in total and commercial air freight BSA hybrid solutions, in total: 68 packages / 29,826.920 kg/164.144 cbm)
Bertling Team: Australia, USA, Air Charter, Project Logistics, Customs & Quarantine Coordination, Operations

As the project evolved, Bertling Australia engineered a hybrid logistics solution by combining commercial air freight capacity with dedicated charter capability. Cargo was transported from Houston to Auckland using a commercial carrier Block Space Agreement (BSA), before seamlessly transferring onto a dedicated Air charter for direct delivery to Port Hedland.

The operation required detailed coordination between multiple stakeholders, including airlines, handling agents, customs authorities, quarantine teams, and airport operators. Through real-time planning and close collaboration, Bertling ensured the cargo moved efficiently through each stage with minimal delay, maintaining the customer’s recovery schedule while adapting to changing project requirements.

The project demonstrated Bertling’s ability to deliver complex, time-critical logistics solutions for the energy and industrial sectors. From emergency air charters and remote site deliveries to multimodal transportation and supply chain recovery, Bertling provided the expertise, flexibility, and global coordination required to keep critical operations moving when every hour counted.

Bertling demonstrated it is more than a traditional freight forwarder. Rather than managing the operation remotely, Bertling deployed specialists directly to Karratha and Port Hedland to oversee aircraft arrivals, airside operations, offloading, safety compliance, vendor coordination, and stakeholder communication.

When additional stock was sourced from multiple U.S. suppliers, the team quickly redesigned the transport plan to consolidate shipments and maintain momentum. When aircraft availability and infrastructure limitations created challenges, Bertling developed alternative solutions to protect the customer’s recovery timeline.

By taking full ownership from supplier engagement through to final delivery, Bertling reduced operational risk, ensured complete supply chain visibility, and delivered a business-critical logistics solution when speed, expertise, and execution mattered most.

A sincere thank you to everyone involved in making this project a success. From our teams in Australia and the United States to our air charter partners, suppliers, ground handlers, customs and quarantine authorities, airport operators, and the customer’s project teams, this achievement was made possible through exceptional collaboration, commitment, and around-the-clock dedication.

Your expertise, adaptability, and willingness to go above and beyond under immense pressure exemplify the values that define Bertling and reinforce our reputation as a trusted logistics partner in Australia.
