Regional disruptions, including the suspension of several shipping services and restricted access to key UAE ports following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, demanded swift strategic planning, operational flexibility, and innovative logistics solutions.
One of the project’s key assignments involved the transportation of 1,200frt of project cargo, with individual unit weights of up to 24mtn. The shipment included JCB backhoe loaders, XCMG articulated boom lifts, and tower cranes destined for Mombasa, Kenya.
Originally scheduled to sail directly from Jebel Ali Port, the shipment was impacted by the suspension of direct vessel services. This unexpected development required Polaris to rapidly redesign the logistics plan to maintain the project schedule.
Drawing on their extensive expertise in project cargo management, Polaris evaluated multiple contingency routes through Saudi Arabia and Oman. Following a comprehensive operational assessment, Port Sohar in Oman was selected as the most efficient and reliable alternative gateway.
The time-sensitive breakbulk cargo was relocated to a designated staging facility, where each unit underwent detailed technical preparation. Where required, the equipment was partially dismantled to optimise transport efficiency, professionally packed in accordance with international standards, and securely containerised before being shipped onward from Port Sohar to Mombasa.
Throughout the execution of the project, the Polaris team successfully overcame numerous operational challenges, including extended border clearance times, evolving customs procedures, transit congestion, and rapidly changing regional conditions.
