Kaleido manages transport of mining equipment

0

Kaleido Logistics, member to the Worldwide Project Consortium for Spain and Portugal, successfully managed the handling and inland transportation of heavy mining equipment through the Port of Walvis Bay, Namibia, reinforcing its capabilities and strong operational focus across Southern Africa.

The cargo includes dump trucks, excavators, and other oversized machinery, now ready to be transported inland to remote quarry and mining sites. These operations require a high level of coordination, precision, and reliability, particularly given the challenging environments and infrastructure constraints typical of inland African regions.

Handled at Walvis Bay — one of Southern Africa’s most strategic logistics gateways — the cargo will be transported via key regional corridors connecting Namibia with neighbouring countries. These corridors play a critical role in enabling the efficient flow of mining equipment to areas where operational continuity depends on timely and secure delivery.

Mammoet joined more than 40 Westinghouse Electric Company supply chain partners to meet with members of the U.S. Congress to share the benefits of building a U.S. fleet of AP1000® plants, the only advanced, grid-scale reactor that is commercially available today.

In meetings with the offices of Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, Mammoet shared the economic impact and manufacturing jobs it supports through the building of AP1000 units. By providing engineered heavy lifting and transport services to AP1000 projects, Mammoet sustains a workforce that will grow significantly alongside market demand, in Texas and the wider United States.

“Mammoet’s vast experience across the energy sectors, across the U.S. and worldwide, is directly deployable to the U.S. nuclear market”, said Rick Bohne, Commercial Director at Mammoet.

“Our vast fleet of equipment – including the world’s strongest land-based crane, the SK6000 – allows companies in the nuclear sector to build in the largest possible pieces, benefitting from modular construction methodologies that allow facilities to reach the first gigawatt faster”.

Fully licensed and construction-ready, the advanced AP1000 modular reactor is positioned to deliver on the Administration’s plan to build a fleet of large nuclear reactors. In addition, the AP1000 plant is the world’s most proven advanced reactor, including two units in commercial operation at Plant Vogtle that are setting industry records for performance.

“Work to deliver an AP1000 reactor can begin immediately, answering the Administration’s call for new gigawatt-scale nuclear while creating high-paying, highly skilled jobs across the country,” said Dan Sumner, Interim Chief Executive Officer, Westinghouse.

“Westinghouse and our experienced supply chain are prepared to start nuclear construction at scale in the United States, supporting tens of thousands of high-paying, highly skilled American jobs and delivering more than $92 billion in U.S. GDP. We appreciate the continued support of Congress on key policies that will support and enable nuclear construction in the United States.”

Mammoet and other Westinghouse suppliers outlined how a fleet of AP1000 plants will boost the competitiveness of the nation’s most energy intensive industries, such as artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing.

The proven AP1000 unit is the quickest way to add advanced nuclear generation to the grid to meet the rising demand from American homes and businesses. America’s supply chain, construction industry and labor unions are ready to deliver new nuclear now.

TII KAMAG strengthens industry dialogue

0

TII KAMAG is deliberately focusing on close exchange with the steel industry in order to identify market developments at an early stage and translate them into practical transport solutions.

With the new “Proximity in Metallurgy” event series, the company has created a platform that brings together key players across the industry.

The aim of the initiative is not only to observe technological and process-related developments, but to actively discuss them together with steel plant planners, crane manufacturers, plant engineers, ladle manufacturers and other industry partners. With the events held at its Ulm site, TII KAMAG has consciously established a format that combines practical insights with professional exchange and provides space for open discussions along the entire value chain.

The focus lies on current changes in steel production, which are increasingly having a direct impact on in-plant logistics processes. In particular, the transition towards Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF) is fundamentally transforming existing process chains. Higher batch frequencies, shorter cycle times and new thermal load profiles are placing increasing demands on transport solutions, vessel technologies and material flows. At the same time, the growing importance of slag as a co-product is coming further into focus. It is increasingly used in applications such as cement, construction materials and the chemical industry, leading to rising requirements for traceability, thermal management and efficient logistics within steel plants.

“The ‘Proximity in Metallurgy’ events are deliberately designed not as traditional product presentations, but as a platform for dialogue,” emphasises Filippo Baldassari, Managing Director of TII Group. “Participants contribute their operational experience, discuss concrete challenges and define requirements for future solutions.”

Feedback from participants has been consistently positive. In particular, the open exchange between different stakeholders and the opportunity to bring together diverse perspectives were highlighted. The combination of technical discussions, insights into production and hands-on demonstrations was also perceived as highly valuable. Several participants emphasised their intention to continue the dialogue beyond the events and to further develop concrete joint projects.

“Our aim is to understand market developments at an early stage and translate them into concrete, implementable solutions,” explains Filippo Baldassari. “Direct exchange with our industry partners is essential for this. Only in this way can we ensure that our products meet the real requirements in steel plants.”

Among the focal points of the events were the KAMAG IHT (Industrial Heavy Transporter) for in-plant heavy-duty transport and the KAMAG SPC (Slag Pot Carrier) for safe and reliable slag handling. Both solutions are key elements of modern steel plant logistics and will be further developed based on the insights gained.

With the “Proximity in Metallurgy” event series, TII KAMAG underlines its ambition not only to follow developments in the steel industry, but to actively help shape them – through close industry ties, a deep understanding of processes and continuous dialogue with its partners.

With the “Proximity in Metallurgy” event series, TII KAMAG underlines its ambition not only to follow developments in the steel industry, but to actively help shape them – through close industry ties, a deep understanding of processes and continuous dialogue with its partners.

EXG delivers complete ASU movement

0

Express Global Logistics (EXG), member to the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) in India, executed the full end‑to‑end movement of an Air Separation Unit (ASU) from China to the SAIL steel plant in Haldia, West Bengal, India.

EXG delivered a seamless multimodal operation across four lots consisting of: 1,600 ton of cargo; 15,600 CBM total volume; Heavy‑lift units of 146 ton and 136 ton; ASU Cold Box components, piping systems, supports, and structural assemblies.

Draft restrictions at the origin didn’t slow the project team down. EXG deployed a barge‑based loading strategy, complete with: Controlled heavy‑lift loading; Real‑time ballast and stability management; Safe barge transfer to the main seaport; Perfectly timed transshipment to the mother vessel.

Heavy units demanded more than standard handling: Pre‑aligned tide windows and crane operations; Engineered grillage and sea‑fastening for 130 ton units; Stress analysis, COG alignment, and load distribution planning; Flexible four‑lot shipment scheduling.

At the destination port, the EXG project team ensured: Fast, sequenced discharge; Smooth handling of oversized units; Parallel customs clearance to eliminate downtime.

Cargo kept moving — exactly as planned. At Express Global Logistics (EXG), such shipments are not only measured by their scale but also by the confidence delivered through structured planning and precise execution.
