CEVA offers connections from the Far East to Latin America

0

CEVA Logistics announced today an expansion of its global deep-sea car carrier operations, now offering connections from the Far East to Central and South America via a regular trade lane and spot services.

Three additional roll-on, roll-off (RORO) vessels—ranging from 5,500 to 7,000 car equivalent units (CEUs)—are allowing the global logistics expert to expand its finished vehicle logistics (FVL) solutions for the automotive market.

The new, regular trade lane service now runs between the Fast East and the west coast of Central and South America, with multiple origin and destination calls available in China, South Korea, Japan, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama, Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Chile.

CEVA Logistics now operates a global fleet of nine deep-sea and short-sea vessels in rotations across four major trade lanes. The logistics company first announced in 2023 the operation of four Eastern Pacific Shipping’s LNG dual-fuel hybrid deep-sea vessels via a 10-year lease from CMA CGM. The company has since expanded with additional vessel leases. Each of the vessels commercially operated by CEVA are equipped with lift decks, allowing loads of all types of vehicles, including passenger cars, vans, trucks, heavy machinery and other over-sized vehicles. CEVA has now transported more than 225,000 vehicles, including high and heavy equipment, since beginning the new RORO services. In 2024, CEVA transported more than 6.1 million vehicles worldwide thanks to its FVL solutions.

As one of the world’s leading finished vehicle logistics providers, CEVA Logistics has a wide range of inland—trucking and rail—solutions to move vehicles from the factory to ports of origin and then from destination ports to final delivery. This end-to-end offering provides greater efficiency to automotive customers in transferring vehicles anywhere in the world.

For the new Far East to Latin America trade lane, CEVA’s land-side transport assets and vehicle compounds in Central and South America ensure the company is able to unload and deliver the vehicles directly into an automaker’s distribution network or to final dealer locations.

With its global network and commitment to flexible solutions for its customers, CEVA’s FVL experts are also able to develop rotations that fit the specific needs of their customers. Thanks to the 5,500-CEU Lake Fuxian vessel, which was added to its operations in Q1 2025, CEVA recently completed a delivery of vehicles and construction equipment from China to South Africa’s Port of Durban, before continuing on to Vitoria, Brazil, to deliver the final 2,500 vehicles and equipment.

Emmanuel Cheremetinski, global FVL leader, CEVA Logistics, said: “With end-to-end solutions from factory to dealer, this expansion of our RORO vessel fleet directly reflects the value we offer our customers. The additional vessels allow us to provide both reliability and flexibility through our new regular trade lane rotation and our global spot solutions.”

Norsepower, the global leader in wind propulsion, has secured a new agreement to deliver six of its industry-proven Norsepower Rotor Sails™ for a fleet of newbuild tankers commissioned by GEFO Shipping Group.

These newbuild vessels, designed by Ship Design & Consult GmbH (SDC), and constructed by Nantong Xiangyu Shipbuilding., will be delivered between 2026 and 2028 with the rotor sails installed.

May 28, 2025, Helsinki, Finland – This deal represents the first collaboration between Norsepower, GEFO, and the shipbuilder Nantong Xiangyu Shipbuilding, and marks another major step in accelerating wind propulsion adoption across European-owned fleets.

The agreement covers six tankers across two distinct designs: Four 3,850 DWT chemical tankers, each to be equipped with one 20mx4m Norsepower Rotor Sail™; Two 7,900 DWT chemical tankers, each to be equipped with one 28mx4m Norsepower Rotor Sail™.

All six rotor sails will feature Norsepower’s EX-compliant design, certified for use on vessels transporting flammable cargoes and compliant with all class and safety requirements. These rotor sails will be manufactured at Norsepower’s unique dedicated factory in China, and delivered to the yard fully assembled, tested and ready for installation.

Mr. Dr.-Ing. Henning Brauer, GEFO’s Technical Director, commented: “At GEFO, we are committed to building a future-ready fleet that meets the highest standards of environmental performance and operational efficiency. Partnering with Norsepower allows us to integrate proven wind propulsion technology into our newbuilds from day one — supporting both our sustainability targets and our long-term competitiveness.”

The six-vessel order will be fulfilled by Nantong Xiangyu Shipbuilding, a prominent Chinese yard building for leading international shipping clients. This deal represents both GEFO’s and Nantong Xiangyu’s first collaboration with Norsepower — further expanding Norsepower’s presence in Asia and deepening its role as a strategic partner in sustainable shipbuilding.

The vessels were designed by renowned German naval architecture firm SDC Ship Design & Consult GmbH, with integrated wind propulsion considered from the earliest design stages to ensure optimal performance and operational efficiency.

This ecosystem enables precise real-time performance optimisation, predictive maintenance, and full transparency on emissions savings for the customer.

“This is a landmark agreement for Norsepower, not just because it involves two new customers and six vessels — but because it signals a fundamental shift in how wind propulsion is perceived in commercial shipping,” said Heikki Pöntynen, CEO of Norsepower. “We are no longer talking about one-off pilot installations; we are now securing full fleet commitments. That is a clear sign we have not only opened the market, but we are now leading it — both in terms of proven delivery capacity and customer trust. And with access to the Norsepower Digital Dimension, including our AI-powered Norsepower Sentient Control™ and Norsepower Cloud, our customers are fully equipped to maximise the return on their investment from day one.”

The six newbuild vessels have received support from the German Government’s Namkue Fund (Nachhaltige Modernisierung von Küstenschiffen), a financial instrument aimed at promoting sustainable coastal shipping and accelerating decarbonisation technologies.

The first vessels in the series are scheduled for delivery in early 2026, with Norsepower Rotor Sails™ installed shortly after hull completion at the shipyard.

CEVA automates vehicle movements

0

CEVA Logistics, a global leader in third-party and automotive logistics, has signed a partnership agreement with STRADOT, a Toulouse-based robotics company specialized in handling solutions.

Two STRADOT conveyor robots will autonomously manage moving vehicles across 2,000 dedicated slots at CEVA’s Nanteuil-le-Haudouin facility, France.

The multi-year partnership between CEVA and STRADOT involves the use of two conveyor robots for handling and moving vehicles during reception and shipping preparation at CEVA’s finished vehicle logistics (FVL) facility in Nanteuil-le-Haudouin, France.

Benefiting from the latest technological advancements in mobile robotics, the two robots will autonomously manage vehicle movements starting in September, within a fully enclosed and secure area covering 2,000 of the site’s 8,000 slots.

The robots will be tasked with conveying vehicles from the reception area and parking them in designated spaces. They will also manage the movement of parked vehicles within the area to position them on shipping lanes for loading into car carrier vehicles. The robots will perform several thousand vehicle movements per month, with optimized control of their movements between the parking areas and the reception and shipping zone of the facility.

The STRADOT robots have the unique ability to lift vehicles to be moved and straddle other parked vehicles along the route, maximizing parking space and increasing storage and movement capacity on the lot by reducing the area needed for maneuvers and traffic lanes.

CEVA has a rich culture of innovation, driving progress and value for customers. The integration of the latest developments in robotics into its operations demonstrates CEVA’s commitment to continuous improvement and operational efficiency. The deployment of the STRADOT robots followed a trial period, with the initial pilot conducted in May 2024 at CEVA’s FVL platform in Loyette, France.

The successful pilot project identified benefits not only in terms of space optimization within the facility and movements within the robotics zone, but also potential productivity gains. The use of electric conveyor robots also contributes to reducing the site’s environmental footprint.

Thomas Maître, product development head, Finished Vehicle Logistics, CEVA Logistics, said: “We are delighted to establish this partnership with STRADOT, which demonstrates our ongoing commitment to deploying innovative solutions and adopting cutting-edge technologies. The use of STRADOT robots supports our mission to improve efficiency across our finished vehicle logistics operations.”

José Iriarte, CEO & co-founder, STRADOT, said: “Our partnership with CEVA Logistics is a fantastic opportunity to showcase how robotics are revolutionizing logistics. We are excited to embark on this multi-year collaboration and are confident that the project will create value and optimize land use, enabling CEVA to strengthen its services and ability to support customers.”

0

Hellmann Worldwide Logistics announces its financial results for 2024, reflecting significant growth, expanded reach in key markets, and a solid financial foundation.

Despite a persistently challenging market environment, Hellmann achieved a remarkable revenue increase of 9 %, reaching EUR 3.8 billion, up from EUR 3.5 billion in 2023.

This growth highlights the company’s strong performance and reinforced global market position. Hellmann’s ability to outperform in a volatile market is further demonstrated by its gross profit development, which exceeded the industry average. The number of shipments remained stable at 20 million, reflecting consistent operational performance and a continued commitment to providing reliable logistics solutions, even amid disrupted and challenging market conditions. Looking ahead, under the leadership of Jens Drewes — who succeeded Reiner Heiken as CEO in June 2024 — the Management Board has set out a clear strategic roadmap for 2030 and beyond. With a strong focus on customer centricity, enhanced productivity, and sustainable growth, the company is building on a solid foundation as it moves to expand its global presence and further strengthen its competitive position across all product segments.

“Thanks to our great team around the world, we were able to continue our growth journey also in 2024 – despite ongoing challenges in the market,” says Jens Drewes, CEO Hellmann Worldwide Logistics. “Building on this solid foundation we are ready to enter the next strategic stage and accelerate international growth – side by side with our customers.”

“Our strong 2024 financial results reflect the robustness of our business model and the strength of our global network,” says Martin Eberle, CFO Hellmann Worldwide Logistics. “The strong increase in revenue and equity positions us well for the next phase of growth. We remain focused on driving financial performance while investing in innovation and sustainability.”

Hellmann also released its 2024 Sustainability Report today, showcasing significant achievements across all three pillars of sustainability — environmental, social, and governance — and reaffirming its commitment to responsible business practices.

Sarens powers INEOS Project One

0

In a show of massive mobilisation of both human and material resources, Sarens, the global leader and reference in crane rental, heavy lifting, and engineered transport, has been supporting INEOS Project One in Antwerp since July 2023.

This groundbreaking initiative aims to construct a state-of-the-art facility in the port of Antwerp, Belgium, and is set to have a positive impact on both the local and European economies. Sarens is responsible for the transportation and lifting operations for this project, including road and marine transport, modular assembly, and precise installations. Our role also involves planning, coordinating, and executing all transport and heavy lifting activities.

In one of the projects phases, we executed one of Belgium’s largest-ever moves: the load-in and transport of furnace modules exceeding a height of 60 metres and weighing up to 7.700T with our Self-Propelled Modular Trailers (SPMTs). Additionally, part of the project’s scope is for Sarens to manoeuvre a colossal 100-metre-long, 800-tons C3 structure using our new mighty LR 12500-1.0 crane, “Strong Sofie”. The project entails additional aspects in its initial phases such as the transportation of numerous bullets and the involvement in later phases of specialised vessels, including our Louis-type and Tom & Wim barges, to facilitate marine transport of heavy industrial components. The LR 12500-1.0 crane, will be working alongside other iconic cranes from our fleet such as the LR 1750, LR 11000, CC 3800, CC 2800, and CC 2500. A total of 88 cranes will be mobilised during this project and an astounding 400-SPMT axle lines will be set in motion.

In terms of mobilising human resources for the project, Sarens accomplished a remarkable achievement. We successfully recruited or reassigned 300 expert professionals to support this mega-scale project. These efforts have been crucial in securing the necessary workforce to ensure the successful progress of this large and complex project. To address the accommodation challenge for the recruited personnel, Sarens acquired an old hotel in Zandvliet and fully renovate it. With Facility Management in full swing, Sarens managed the renovation, and after months of effort, the hotel was completed at the beginning of 2024, ready for the first employees to move in.

Large-scale projects bring unique challenges, and INEOS Project ONE has been no exception. So far, Sarens has tackled these with innovation and precision. Belgium experienced its wettest year on record in 2024, impacting road conditions and crane mobilisation. Despite weather not permitting, Sarens adjusted schedules and used advanced planning tools to maintain progress. To tackle the regional shortage of skilled operators and bring the project to life, Sarens recruited talent from across Europe, bringing together 300 strong from an astonishing 28 different nationalities. Moreover, we invested in long-term housing options, by acquiring and renovating a hotel as well as renting apartments and bungalows, to ensure the stability and well-being of our workforce. Equipment was sourced from multiple our international hubs, with cranes like the LR 12500-1.0 transported directly from the Liebherr factory in Germany. Last, but certainly not least, a project of this scale has several EPCM contractors with multiple contractors and subcontractors working on a small footprint, which requires coordination with many parties involved that we successfully managed.

To guarantee efficient execution, Sarens implemented several forward-thinking strategies. For instance, advanced systems provided live updates on equipment movement and operational progress. In addition, the expertise of Sarens engineers from South Korea, along with resources from hubs across Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic, enhanced operational precision.

In a project that will not only provide economic benefits but also adhere to high environmental standards, utilising the most advanced technologies to minimise emissions and maximise energy efficiency, INEOS Project One is an important step forward in the sustainable development of the industry. For Sarens, this project underscores our ability to deliver large-scale solutions that shape the future of global industry. With operations continuing into 2025, we remain committed to excellence, ensuring that INEOS Project ONE is not only completed successfully but also stands as a symbol of world-class engineering and partnership.

WALLENIUS SOL supports CleanSea

0

Every hour, the equivalent of more than five bathtubs of plastic wash up along Sweden’s west coast.

Through its collaboration with CleanSea, WALLENIUS SOL aims to actively contribute to cleaning Swedish coastal waters from plastic and debris.

CLEANSEA IS A Swedish initiative founded by twins Lukas and Mikaela Julher. Their mission is to protect marine life and ensure a future for our oceans by removing plastic and waste from Sweden’s coastlines. In addition to shoreline clean-ups, CleanSea also organises surface and diving operations to clear debris from the seabed.

“Many people don’t see the extent of it, because the most public and visible areas are often cleaned by local councils, but the reality is that as much as 700-800 tonnes of plastic wash up on Sweden’s west coast every year. In 25 years, it’s estimated there will be more plastic than fish in the sea, and millions of marine animals die as a result each year,” says Mikaela Julher, founder of CleanSea.

Far out in the northern archipelago of Bohuslän lies the beautiful island group of Trossö–Kalvö–Lindön. This area is home to a rich biodiversity, including rare species such as oyster plant, sea couch grass, and nesting barred warblers. But it is also one of the hundred most vulnerable bays, islands and stretches of coastline in Bohuslän – a place where hundreds of kilos of marine debris wash ashore every year.

“To support CleanSea’s work we’ve chosen to ‘adopt’ Lindön, ensuring they can continue to keep the sea and coastline clean – all year round,” says Rebecca Tagaeus, Chief Sustainability Officer, WALLENIUS SOL.

The team from CleanSea will clean WALLENIUS SOL’s adopted island, Lindön, 3–5 times over the coming year and expects to collect around 100 kg of plastic each time.

100 for the Ocean is one of CleanSea’s largest initiatives to clean Sweden’s coastline. By having 100 different companies each adopt a bay, these exposed areas can be cleaned between one and five times per year, depending on need. With support from WALLENIUS SOL, Lindön will be cleaned 3–5 times a year. CleanSea estimates that around 100 kg of plastic will be collected during each of these clean-ups.

“When we choose which activities or organisations to support, we prioritise initiatives that promote ecological and social sustainability where we live and operate. It’s a pleasure to work with an authentic, small-scale partner like CleanSea, where we can clearly see the tangible results,” says Rebecca Tagaeus.

Huge amounts of plastic reach the Bohuslän coast via ocean currents from the Atlantic and the Baltic Sea. Removing 100 grams of plastic can be enough to save a seabird.”

CleanSea’s goal during 2025 is to remove 30,000 kilos of marine plastic, and to remove even higher amounts in the future. In five years, they have already collected over 84,000 kilos. But plastic is far from the only thing floating in our seas.

“The majority of what washes ashore is single-use plastics, packaging, and fishing gear. But we find all sorts of things – space technology, safes, drugs, underwater drones, and plenty of messages in bottles,” explains Mikaela Julher.

She hopes even more companies will choose to adopt a bay along Sweden’s west coast.

“We truly celebrate each time a company adopts a bay. We need to work together to reach the goal of a clean sea, and when we’re able to keep one specific place consistently free of plastic, it can be life-saving for the animals that live there.”

Polaris delivers for Massawa Airport Project

0

Polaris Projects have successfully executed a series of complex, cross-trade multimodal shipments for the Massawa Airport Project in Eritrea.

The shipments, originating from multiple global locations, were precisely coordinated to ensure timely arrival in Massawa.

One of the major challenges in this project was the transportation of RO/RO units which measured up to 14.0 (L) x 3.80 (W) x 3.60 (H) meters, weighing up to 65 metric tons.

Approximately 35 pieces of special equipment were also delivered with the main cargo.

The limited availability of regular liner sailings to Eritrean ports – particularly for out-of-gauge and heavy cargo – necessitated meticulous planning and execution.

Fortunately, containerised accessories faced fewer shipping restrictions and were handled more easily.

Despite these logistical complexities, Polaris Projects completed the multimodal deliveries efficiently and on-schedule, meeting the high expectations of all stakeholders involved.

“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all our partners and stakeholders for their unwavering support in bringing this project to a successful conclusion.”
