Repremar completes operation in collaboration with a partner company

0

Repremar Logistics S.A., a member of the Project Logistics Alliance representing Uruguay and Paraguay, has recently completed an extraordinary operation in collaboration with a partner company.

The operation involved the management of the vessel – Furkay and the transportation of four luxury yachts costing over 6,000,000 USD.

The shipment, originating in Genoa, Italy, included the following four yachts: 2020 Riva 76 Grand Bahamas, 2015 Nauta Air 90, 2013 Vandutch 55, and Pardo 43. The heights of the yachts ranged between 4.2 and 10.5 meters. The handling of the transportation aboard the Furkay was overseen by Repremar Logistics’ sister company, Repremar Shipping Agency, and the yachts arrived aboard the vessel in Montevideo, Uruguay. At the Port of Montevideo, team Repremar Logistics worked with the partner company on the unloading of the yachts. The process required two days of thorough, coordinated work.

The success of this operation does not only highlight the expertise of team Repremar Logistics, but also the professionalism of the team when it comes to delivering great results through internal collaborations within the Repremar Group. Additionally, it is worth noting that Mr. German Pena, one of the directors of Repremar Logistics, recently traveled to the Bahamas to personally oversee the loading of another yacht onto an MSC vessel for transport to Montevideo. This hands-on approach underscores Repremar Logistics’ commitment to excellence, especially considering the delays the vessel had faced in recent weeks.

The company’s continuous dedication to providing first-class services in its expanding operations is something we at the Project Logistics Alliance are proud to witness.

Vestas wins order from Iberdrola

0

Iberdrola has placed a 99 MW order of for the repowering of the Molar de Molinar and Isabela wind parks, located in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain.

The contracts include the supply and installation of 11 V150-4.5 MW wind turbines and 11 V136-4.5 MW wind turbines respectively, as well as a 10-year Active Output Management (AOM 4000) service agreement.

The 22 new wind turbines will replace 139 legacy models currently powering the sites, increasing their energy output by around 30 percent.

‘Thanks to the grants awarded by the Spanish Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE), through a competitive process, Iberdrola has been able to start these pioneering investments in repowering. The projects required to dismantle the old wind farms, and to adapt the foundations and electrical connections to host larger machines. The installation of more modern wind turbines will allow us to make better use of the wind resource, reducing the environmental impact’, says José González Bujanda, Head of Project Development at Iberdrola Renewable Energy.

“We are very proud to partner with Iberdrola for the repowering of these projects. This order underlines the great potential in repowering older onshore turbines with new and efficient technology. It also showcases the suitability of our 4 MW portfolio for the Spanish market. Its full converter technology provides our customers with the reliability they need to operate in the Spanish grid, marked by an increasing participation of renewable sources”, says José Luis del Cerro, Vestas Spain Country Manager.

With over 9.9 GW of wind turbines turning 20 years old or more in 2025, Spain’s repowering market is expected to become a driving force of its energy transition in the coming years. Replacing legacy turbines with current technology also allows to considerably increase the onshore wind capacity with fewer turbines, reducing the environmental impact and the use of ground at the site.

Turbine delivery is expected by the second quarter of 2025 whilst commissioning is planned by the fourth quarter of 2025.

Once operational, both wind parks combined will now prevent 53,000 tonnes of CO2 from being emitted into the atmosphere per year. The project’s CO2 footprint will also benefit from Vestas’ strong presence in Spain. The company currently manufactures onshore blades in its factory in Daimiel by Ciudad Real. The wind turbine towers will also be manufactured locally.

Since 1991, when Vestas installed its first wind turbine in Spain, the company has accumulated over 5.3 GW of installed capacity in the country.

P&H welcomes partners to celebrate expansion progress

0

Parrish & Heimbecker, Limited (P&H) welcomed industry and community partners to celebrate the progress of the flour mill expansion at the Port of Hamilton.

This milestone not only marks continued growth but also underscores Hamilton’s role as a vital hub for the agri-food sector, driven by a steadfast commitment to building a resilient global supply chain.

The expansion, which will be completed late 2025, includes two new storage silos (for handling essential feed ingredients such as soymeal, distillers dried grains, and wheat to service the flour mills) and a third flour mill, solidifying P&H’s standing as a leading flour producer in Ontario.

“This expansion reflects the strength of the agri-food cluster in Hamilton and reinforces the importance of building a resilient supply chain for Ontario farmers and food manufacturers,” said Ian Hamilton, President & CEO of HOPA Ports. “The continued growth of companies like P&H demonstrates the value of collaboration and strategic investment in transportation and industrial infrastructure.”

P&H’s operations at the Port of Hamilton began in 2008 with the grain terminal and in 2017 with the opening of Ontario’s first new flour mill in 75 years. By 2020, the addition of a second mill doubled its processing capacity. Now, with a third mill under construction, P&H continues to meet the rising demand for quality ingredients in the baking and food manufacturing industries.

“The expansion of our Hamilton operations reflects P&H’s unwavering commitment to supporting Canada and Ontario’s food security,” said John Heimbecker, CEO at Parrish & Heimbecker. “With this new flour mill and expanded storage capacity, we’re not only increasing our ability to meet the growing demand for high-quality ingredients, but also ensuring a more efficient supply chain for our valued agricultural and business partners.”

The agri-food sector is now a cornerstone of Hamilton’s economy, representing 31% of HOPA’s overall cargo. With more than 120 food ingredient companies in the city, the sector supports more than 100,000 jobs across the province.

“HOPA’s integrated network is essential to driving economic growth and supporting key industries like agri-food,” continued Hamilton. “With 16 companies at the Port of Hamilton active in this sector, we’re helping businesses invest and grow in Ontario while strengthening supply networks that benefit our region.”

Foselev uses Tadano to install a ventilation system

0

“Lifting a 2.3-tonne load at a 90-meter radius to a height of 30 meters calls for a very high-performance crane,” says Christophe Blanchard.

The seasoned project manager from French crane services company Foselev Ardennes knows what he’s talking about. Which is why he and his team opted for the Tadano AC 7.450-1 all terrain crane when it came to lifting a new air handling unit onto the roof of a PSA-Stellantis factory hall in Charleville.

It was quite a job for the Foselev crew and their Tadano AC 7.450-1 – and not just because of the large radius at which the load had to be lifted. The job site itself also presented a number of difficulties. For one thing, the cramped conditions were quite a challenge—albeit a challenge to which the AC 7.450-1 was more than equal, thanks to its compact dimensions in combination with the operator’s consummate maneuvering skills. The Surround View camera system was a huge help when it came to positioning the crane on the site. This patented system uses six crane cameras to show a computer-assisted diagram of the maximum possible extension lengths for the outriggers at the crane’s location. It also allows the system to detect the maximum possible slewing radius. “This eliminates tedious and time-consuming measurements and testing when looking for a location from which to operate the crane. As a result, the crane is ready for use faster,” explains crane operator Willy Baumann. Meanwhile, during the lift itself, the crane’s slewing movements were restricted by lamp posts and trees. But that’s where the AC 7.450-1 machine’s advanced IC-1 Plus crane control system with working range limiter came into its own, a huge help for the operator. Another important feature that proved extremely valuable at Stellantis is the remote control, which Baumann used to great effect during the lift. “To get the air handling unit onto the roof, we had to lift it out over protruding edges that largely obstructed our line of sight from the crane,” he explains. “But the remote control solved this problem.”

Speed was another decisive factor in the choice of crane for this project. “For us, the AC 7.450-1 unit’s transport-optimized design and ease of assembly are decisive benefits because they mean we can have the crane ready to go extremely quickly,” Christophe Blanchard says. “We saw that once again at the Stellantis factory premises: it took only a day to set up and rig the whole crane, including the SSL.” What’s more, the job site was very close to the Foselev branch in Charleville-Mézières. “Hence, it took us only 20 minutes to get the AC 7.450-1 to the site,” explains Branch Manager Michael Mathieu. Foselev needed 10 truck runs for all the necessary equipment.

To accomplish the demanding lift, the crew set the crane up with a 44-meter main boom, a 75-meter luffing jib, the Sideways Superlift (SSL) system, and the XL counterweight adapter frame. The XL adapter frame increases the counterweight tail swing radius, which allows significantly increased lifting capacities, particularly with the SSL configuration. For Foselev, the Sideways Superlift system is another of this crane’s highlights. It comes standard with a transport cradle for effective transportation by truck. It is easy to connect to the crane’s hydraulics using the multi-coupling. And it supports a wide range of setup options, depending on site conditions and requirements. Once on site, the SSL can be set up either as a fully assembled unit in a single lift using an assist crane, or its arms can be mounted individually. Alternatively, the SSL can be set up using the crane’s self-rigging capability – and even do this via remote control. In general, when developing the AC 7.450-1, Tadano placed a lot of emphasis on handling during SSL rigging: with a standard fall protection system on the SSL, access ladders and a platform for assembly.

These technical refinements meant that the AC 7.450-1 was quick and safe to set up and was easily able to lift the 2.3-tonne load over a considerable distance. In fact, it accomplished the lift twice, as Michael Mathieu explains: “We had to lift the old air handling unit down off the roof before we could hoist the new one into place.”

For the lifts and for the assembly and disassembly work, Foselev deployed a crew of five employees, who completed this demanding job without any delays in just one day. Consequently, the crane was on site for a total of three days, as planned. That’s a pretty quick turnaround for such a challenging job, especially considering that it was completed largely without disruption to normal operations at the factory. “This winning combination of the right crane and our highly experienced team meant that we were able to meet all our customer’s requirements as promised—just as we knew we would,” says Christophe Blanchard.
