Briggs’ football match raises £9,000 for Liberty Jamboree

Comments Off on Briggs’ football match raises £9,000 for Liberty Jamboree

A damp Thursday evening at Hednesford Town Football Club saw the second Briggs Equipment Sales Team vs Suppliers charity football match.

The fixture, organised by National Account Manager, Stuart Long, and Strategic Account Executive, Beth Redfern, was in aid of Liberty Jamboree and at the time of writing has raised over £9,000.00

Liberty Jamboree are a charity that offers support to children and young adults with physical and learning disabilities.

Following a narrow 2-1 defeat last year, Mike Parkin’s Briggs Equipment side were eager to put this behind them and gain victory in the first meeting involving spectators. The dream start which they would have hoped for took a hit when the Suppliers took an early lead through a defensive mix up, however with the crowd giving them some much needed motivation, Briggs quickly pulled level through Dave Pomfrett.

After going behind again shortly after, Briggs were handed a penalty by the referee to draw back on level terms. Dave Pomfrett stepped up and slotted away his second of the night coolly, sending the keeper the wrong way and sending us into the break all square.

After a half time Liberty Jamboree penalty shootout, we were set for the second half, hoping for even more goals. All spectators got as they wished as there were another two goals scored, with Dave Pomfrett rounding off with a hat-trick to put the score at 3-3.

Playing a full 90 minute match is a big ask if you are not used to doing it on a regular basis and players were visibly tired by the closing stages of the match. With a late corner in the match, the ball was played to the edge of the box where Stuart Long found himself with enough time and space to compose himself and fire home a strike worthy of winning any game.

Stuart Long, National Account Manager, Briggs Sales captain, and event organiser, said:“What a fantastic evening, the turnout was excellent and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. To win the game was a nice added bonus.

“The real victory is the impact we’re making off the field. This game brought us together for a cause which is so deserving and I’m incredibly proud of my team and everyone who contributed to this wonderful charity.
Strategic Account Executive, Beth Redfern, added:

“Everybody at Liberty Jamboree is delighted with how the evening played out. All of the money raised will make such a difference for all of the children and young adults that we aim to support.

“Thank you to everybody who attended, from players, to spectators, to suppliers, we all played our part in creating a wonderful evening which we can all be proud of.”

5 Insights from Women in Maritime 2024

Comments Off on 5 Insights from Women in Maritime 2024

On May 13, Maritimt Forum, The Competence house, Öckerö municipality, the Swedish Shipowners’ Association, SMTF, Wista Sweden and Wärtsilä, organised a seminar to recognise the “International Day for Women in Maritime”.

Here, industry colleagues gathered to discuss how to enhance the role of women in the maritime sector.

Our HR and Sustainability Manager, Rebecca Tagaeus, was naturally present. Here, she shares some of her key takeaways: “Having a diverse workforce is key to success in any team. To attract future talent, we must adapt to new demands, particularly regarding security. It’s essential to consider both internal feedback and external insights on what’s lacking in the maritime sector compared to industries that are more advanced in gender equality.”

“An education in maritime and logistics can form the foundation for a long and diverse career. The career paths are numerous, and many young students testify that they had not realised how many land-based positions are available where their skills are highly sought after. It is possible to have a solid, sustainable career as a woman within the maritime sector.”

“By empowering those who facilitate change, we can create an environment ripe for growth and innovation. We also need to overcome old norms and outdated ‘truths’ about what it means to be a woman in maritime. Despite progress, outdated attitudes persist. Therefore, we must focus on clear examples and representation to reshape perceptions.”

“Sustainability is a web held together by multiple components. The social component is very important and facilitates good practice in financial as well as environmental sustainability. Without the right people with the right (and diverse) perspectives, we lack the essential building blocks to move forward. A diversified team is not just a strength; it opens doors to opportunities previously unseen.”

“To achieve change, the right mindset is needed from top to bottom and from the inside out in organizations. It requires clear goals and policy documents with follow-ups to secure the right fit.”

EXG handles heavy TBM for the Patna Metro Rail Projects

Comments Off on EXG handles heavy TBM for the Patna Metro Rail Projects

Express Global Logistics (EXG), Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) member in India, has once again set new standards with the flawless completion of lowering two Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) into the launching shafts for the Patna Metro Rail Projects.

These massive TBMs, each weighing up to 450 ton, play a crucial role in excavating tunnels for the underground metro station. The first TBM was descended smoothly by EXG at Moin Ul Haq underground metro station, followed by the second at Gandhi Maidan underground metro station.

Handling such heavy machinery was no small feat. The TBMs arrived in dismantled parts and were meticulously assembled by EXG’s expert team. EXG devised a smart solution to tackle space constraints and a congested area, which rendered crane use unfeasible for handling such heavy cargo. This resulted in seamless operation that showcased EXG’s commitment to excellence and top-notch service quality.

Leveraging advanced techniques, EXG employed an innovative skidding method using a Hydraulic gantry system spanning an impressive 20 meters. This was combined with precise lowering techniques using the Strand Jack and Tower System by 18 meters. The TBMs were lowered flawlessly into their designated locations within the shafts, a testament to EXG’s engineering prowess.

The meticulous planning and execution paid off as the TBMs smoothly descended 52 feet below ground level into the launching shafts. This remarkable achievement was made possible through the coordinated efforts of EXG’s skilled engineering and site operation team, who conquered every challenge with precision and finesse.

Comments Off on Foundation installation campaign begins on Dogger Bank B

The team working on what will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm, Dogger Bank, have started work on the foundation installation campaign for the second phase of the development.

Seaway7’s vessels Seaway Strashnov and Seaway Alfa Lift have commenced installation of monopile foundations and transition pieces for the Dogger Bank B phase of the offshore wind farm project. The team recently completed installation of all 95 transition pieces on Dogger Bank A, thus concluding the installation of the foundations for the first phase of the project.

Olly Cass, Dogger Bank Wind Farm Project Director, said: “These installation milestones are the result of years of commitment and diligence from the project team and its delivery partners. As the world’s largest wind farm of its kind and due to the deployment of new turbine technology, every aspect of the wind farm has required us to come up with new innovative design and engineering solutions that will shape the future construction of offshore wind globally. We extend our thanks and congratulations to the many companies and individuals who’ve risen to this challenge and contributed to the milestone we’re celebrating today.”

Wouter van Dalen, Project Director, Seaway7, said: “We are happy to welcome Seaway Strashnov back to the project to commence foundation installation on Dogger Bank B – leading on from the vessel’s good performance last year on Dogger Bank A. After introducing our brand-new heavy lift vessel Seaway Alfa Lift to the project in October, the vessel operated through the high weather season installing transition pieces on Dogger Bank A, and now continues this work in phase B. The foundation installation scope is making excellent progress, enabled by our strong collaboration with our client Dogger Bank Wind Farm and our subcontractors.”

The monopile foundations and transition pieces provide a solid and stable base for the scale of GE Vernova’s groundbreaking 13MW Haliade-X turbines. The monopile and transition piece structures were manufactured by Sif and Smulders and are being installed 80-miles off the Yorkshire coast by tier one contractor Seaway7. Monopiles are the large-diameter tube-shaped steel structures that are installed in the seabed by the vessel using dynamic positioning technology. The monopiles weigh in at up to 1,424 tonnes each and can measure up to 72.8 metres in length. The Dogger Bank transition pieces feature a pioneering split-level design to support safe installation and operation and have a record-breaking 8m flange to connect the monopiles and transition piece structures.

Confirmation of this offshore milestone on Dogger Bank B follows on from the successful installation of the offshore HVDC platform for the second phase of the wind farm in April.

A total of 277 monopiles and transition pieces will be installed across all three phases of the wind farm, with completion due in 2026.

Steel manufactured by Tata Steel in Wales and processed in Corby and Hartlepool is being used in the supporting components of the transition pieces, while South Tyneside-based Metec and Rochdale-based Granada Material Handling have also won contracts with Smulders to support this innovative and world-leading project.

Designed in the UK by experts from Wood Thilsted, Dogger Bank Wind Farm’s foundations have been optimised to tackle challenging wave loads in the Dogger Bank area of the North Sea, with installation in water depths of up to 32m and at a minimum distance of 130km from shore.

Our dedicated team handles all stages of the logistics process, offering customized services to each client.
As we continue to elevate the standard of event logistics in Qatar, JSL Global remains dedicated to delivering seamless solutions and unparalleled service to our clients in the jewelry industry.”

Another delicate task was demonstrated by JSL Global who handled the transports of a Telescopic Suction Pipe from Bahrain to Qatar.

The transportation of the Telescopic Suction Pipe (assembled) presented a unique logistical challenge, requiring meticulous planning and coordination. With dimensions of 21 x 2.05 x 2.4 m and a weight of about 11 ton, the cargo posed challenges due to its size and weight, necessitating special equipment and careful handling.

The project involved transporting the material from Bahrain to Doha, Qatar, via Saudi Arabia, by road freight. This was undertaken for a prominent alumina refinery company in Doha, located in one of the industrial cities in Qatar. The cargo was vital for their plant operations, demanding adherence to strict timelines.

Specialized trailers, including a Long Trailer of 22 meters for cross-country shipment, were utilized, followed by a 22-meter long trailer for in-country movement to the client’s site. Challenges arose during the transportation process, notably obtaining permits for the Bahrain Causeway and undergoing X-ray scanning at the KSA border due to the cargo’s length.

To meet the client’s time-sensitive requirements, thorough planning was essential. Gate passes, escort approvals, and cross-loading plans were arranged precisely to ensure seamless movement and adherence to deadlines. Despite the logistical hurdles, collaborative efforts and strategic planning ensured the successful delivery of the Telescopic Suction Pipe, demonstrating the JSL Global project team´s commitment to meeting client needs under challenging circumstances.
