TII KAMAG delivers heavy-duty vehicles to POSCO

The transformation of steel production towards greater sustainability is progressing worldwide.

The use of electric arc furnaces (EAFs) is considered a key technology for significantly reducing CO₂ emissions in the steel industry. One of the pioneers in this field is POSCO, South Korea’s largest steel producer. At its Gwangyang site in South Jeolla Province, POSCO is currently constructing a state-of-the-art EAF plant with a planned annual capacity of 2.5 million tonnes and is relying on transport technology from TII KAMAG. Commissioning is scheduled to begin in 2026.

For in-plant heavy-duty transport in the new steelworks, POSCO has chosen solutions from TII KAMAG. As part of the project, three specially developed vehicles were delivered: a more than 22-meter-long KAMAG Industrial Lift Transporter (IHT) with two underfloor driver’s cabins, designed for the safe transport of pallets carrying up to 500 tonnes of molten steel. With a payload capacity of 518 tonnes, it is among the most powerful solutions of its kind. The delivery is complemented by two KAMAG Slag Pot Carriers (SPC) in platform type, each offering a payload of 100 tonnes and intended for the efficient removal of slag.

The project was carried out in close collaboration with TII KAMAG’s long-standing local sales and service partner Kilwoo. This international cooperation ensures that POSCO not only receives high-performance vehicles but can also rely on dependable service during ongoing operations.

Sarens lifts sculpture in Texas

Sarens recently completed a remarkable cultural project in Woodlands, Texas, lifting and setting a 36,000 lb sculpture with precision and care.

The project, carried out between September 15–17, 2025, required not only technical expertise but also a deep respect for the sensitivity of the artwork.

The relocation of the sculpture is expected to enhance cultural engagement in the region, support the local arts economy, and attract visitors, providing a meaningful boost to surrounding businesses and community vitality.

From the earliest planning phase, Sarens’ team recognised the unique challenge: handling a valuable and delicate piece of art in a confined jobsite environment. Project Manager Larry Borque, together with Dispatcher George Ferguson, coordinated every step to ensure that the sculpture’s integrity remained uncompromised.

One Grove GMK 5150XL (150-tonne) All Terrain Crane, equipped with a 225’ main boom and 98,100 lbs of counterweights.
One Liebherr LTM 1070 (70-tonne) All Terrain Crane, with a 164’ main boom and 32,000 lbs of counterweights.
Both cranes were carefully selected to meet the weight and reach requirements of the project. Setup was completed in just two hours, demonstrating the efficiency of Sarens’ operational teams.

The lift was carried out by a crew of just three: one operator, one rigger, and a safety manager. Working in a confined space, they carefully attached the rigging slings and raised the sculpture into its new position. The operation required slow, deliberate movements to maintain artistic integrity and structural safety at all times.

“It was a beautiful project to be part of,” says Project Manager Larry Borque. “The challenge was making sure the artwork was handled with the utmost respect, and our team did exactly that.”

While Sarens is renowned worldwide for executing some of the most complex heavy-lift projects, this job highlights how the company’s expertise can also be applied to cultural and community-focused initiatives. By ensuring the safe relocation of a significant sculpture, Sarens has helped strengthen the region’s cultural identity and contributed to an enduring community landmark.

EZ Link Taiwan completes project delivery

EZ Link Taiwan have successfully performed a project cargo delivery from Taiwan to Houston in the USA including breakbulk cargo.

GP: 31 x 40’HQ and 4 x 20’HQ; OOG: 16 x 40’FR and 2 x 20’FR; Breakbulk: 13.00 x 4.45 x 4.85m / 30,000kg.

EZ Link fulfilled the client’s request for delivery of the large volume of various types of cargo with a smooth delivery from Kaohsiung Port in Taiwan to Houston Port before door delivery to Casa Grande in Arizona.

They provided a tailor-made service to safely execute the project with cargo packing, lashing, stuffing, and securing at the warehouse where the EZ link professional team paid meticulous attention to fumigation of the wooden material, and covering with tarpaulin – particularly with the various cargo sizes, and stuffing and loading into containers.

The client’s feedback was very happy with the timely and reliable service from EZ Link as always.

Rhenus finalises integration of C. Hartwig Gdynia

As of 10th of September, C. Hartwig Gdynia S.A. is rebranded to Rhenus, operating under the legal entity Rhenus Air & Ocean Poland S.A.

The company’s name change is the culmination of the process of fully integrating one of Poland’s oldest freight forwarding companies with the Rhenus Group, a global provider of logistics services.

The rebranding is a natural step resulting from the company’s acquisition by Rhenus Group in 2021, which has strengthened its global air and ocean network and expanded its presence in Eastern Europe. Rhenus Group now offers an extended range of ocean, air, intermodal and project transport services on the Polish market, as well as an extensive global operational footprint covering over 70 countries.

The integration is also accompanied by changes to the management board. Effective September 1st, Marek Kearney, who previously served as Chief Operating Officer and Sea Freight Director at C. Hartwig Gdynia for 9 years, will assume the position of Managing Director of Rhenus Air & Ocean Poland. Marek Klabacha, who has served on the company’s management board since 2023, will continue as part of the management. From 1 October 2025, the newly appointed Managing Director, Konstantin Perlitt, who previously served as Branch Manager at Rhenus in South Africa, will also join the company’s Management Board. The above changes result from the completion of the integration process.

DEME expands fleet with new OCV

DEME is expanding its fleet with a new Offshore Construction Vessel (OCV), strengthening its subsea cable installation capacity to meet the evolving global offshore wind market.

Designed for versatility, the vessel will be capable of executing trenching, burial, and cable-laying operations, complementing DEME’s existing cable installation vessels, Living Stone and Viking Neptun.

Based on the advanced Norwegian SALT 310 design, the 123-meter OCV will be equipped with a DP2 dynamic positioning system, a 150-ton active heave-compensated offshore crane, a hangar for two Work Class ROVs, a hybrid 1,000-kWh battery system, and a methanol-ready propulsion design for future fuel flexibility. Below deck, the vessel is configured to accommodate two 2,500-ton cable carousels, enabling swift deployment and seamless transitions between trenching, burial, and cable-laying operations. The vessel can accommodate up to 123 people.

Hansa Meyer Brazil coordinates monumental project

Hansa Meyer Brazil are coordinating a monumental logistics project between Brazil and Saudi Arabia.

The project, of unprecedented proportions in the country, involved the transportation of 14 large-scale transformers manufactured by Hitachi Energy in Guarulhos to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Each unit weighs approximately 340tn and requires the use of one of the largest girder bridge trailer combinations ever operated in Brazil – 22 axle lines on each end, totalling about 136m in length and over 800tn of gross weight.
According to the Federal Highway Police, the combination of trailer and cargo is the largest in history to travel along the highway connecting São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

The first phase of the project was the movement of the first transformer covering approximately 390km to the Port of Itaguaí. The transport, which occupies an entire lane of the highway, was planned to minimise traffic disruption and ensure safety throughout the journey.

The operation quickly drew public attention and went viral on social media, in addition to receiving wide coverage from national media, reinforcing its historic significance for Brazilian logistics.

Throughout 2025 and 2026, another 13 units are being transported, consolidating the project as a milestone for the project logistics sector and for transport engineering in Brazil.

DEME to reinforce the Lekdijk

DEME has signed a contract for reinforcement of the Lekdijk in the Netherlands.

For this project, DEME is working together with Heijmans and GMB in the Lekensemble consortium to reinforce the dike between Wijk bij Duurstede and Amerongen (WAM). Commissioned by Hoogheemraadschap De Stichtse Rijnlanden, this vital project is part of the Dutch Flood Protection Program and aims to safeguard hundreds of thousands of residents from high water.

The Lekdijk, stretching 55 kilometers between Amerongen and Schoonhoven, is undergoing a major reinforcement to ensure long-term safety and flood protection for large parts of central and western Netherlands. Known as Project Sterke Lekdijk, the initiative is divided into six sub-projects, with the Lek Ensemble consortium playing a key role in the 11-kilometer stretch between Wijk bij Duurstede and Amerongen.

The WAM section will be upgraded with a focus on safety, livability, nature, and recreation and its redesign will align with the development of the Lunenburgerwaard, creating space for walking, cycling, and nature conservation.

The Lekensemble consortium was selected for its innovative approach to dike reinforcement, bringing together expertise in civil, water, and road engineering. These innovations help lower the costs of dike reinforcement by introducing new approaches in engineering and processes. Its methods include, for example, the use of lightweight plastic sheet piles that reduce CO₂ emissions and speed up installation.

Having previously collaborated on the Gorinchem-Waardenburg (GoWa) dike reinforcement project, which is also part of the national plan, the consortium is now ready to apply its combined expertise to this new challenge.

Jaap van der Weele, General Manager DEME Environmental, the Netherlands, said: “The contract and start of the implementation phase of the WAM project, following five years of design and planning, presents DEME with a valuable opportunity to showcase our expertise in flood protection and environmental challenges. Works are expected to begin this month, with completion expected in 2027.

Denholm Good Logistics transports offshore drilling jack-up platform

Transporting a deconstructed offshore drilling jack-up platform is no small feat, especially when it involves 14 truck loads, cross-border customs, and seamless multimodal coordination.

That was exactly the type of challenge Denholm Good Logistics Ltd, a member of the Project Logistics Alliance representing Ireland, tackled for Lankelma Ltd, moving their offshore rig from East Sussex, the United Kingdom, to Dublin, Ireland.

The responsibility of handling the movement of the Sandpiper jack-up was entrusted to Denholm Good Logistics’ Dublin-based Project Forwarding Division, which managed every step of the operation. The project came with several complexities and requirements, which included the following: Providing temporary import customs clearance; Handling out-of-gauge cargo in multiple loads; Coordinating on-site fabrication and lifting processe.; Conducting multimodal road and sea transport in a precise and timely manner.

Through meticulous planning and real-time communication with local partners, the Denholm Good Logistics team managed to overcome the aforementioned complexities and handled every step of the operation seamlessly. Denholm Good Logistics dealt with the customs challenges throughout the entire rig and arranged the sequencing of arrival at Dun Laoghaire Harbour, Dublin, with a well-organized construction plan. Furthermore, the team contacted local partners and arranged bunkering, equipment-lifting, waste removal, and welding/fabricating services.

The Nearshore Manager at Lankelma stated that “as a new customer, we were very happy with the outstanding service provided. The service was prompt, efficient, and personalised. Every single detail was taken care of from beginning to end. Various departments were engaged to ensure the smooth running of the project, and it was a pleasure to work with all”. They also added that the well-executed services and open communication approach followed by Denholm Good Logistics make Lankelma look forward to more collaborations with Denholm Good Logistics in Ireland.

This project serves as an example of how experienced project forwarders navigate complex logistics with precision and care.

Marr implements The Buddie System

Marr Contracting (Marr) has become the first business in the world to implement new crane safety technology, The Buddie System, on two Sydney construction projects.

Marr crane crews working with Parklife Metro D&C Joint Venture on construction of the new Sydney Metro Airport Terminal Station, and with Richard Crookes Constructions on the Sydney House mixed-use development (former City Tattersall’s Club site) in the Sydney CBD, were the first to implement the system in a live environment.

Developed by experienced crane industry professionals Gary Panagiotidis and Jade Harris, The Buddie System is designed for crane operators and dogmen / slinger signallers to reduce the risk of accidents caused by two-way radio issues or miscommunication between crane crews.

With up to 30 percent[1] of crane accidents involving miscommunication between operators and ground crews, The Buddie System has real potential to prevent injuries and fatalities on construction sites.

The wireless instant safety alert device overcomes the shortfalls of existing two-way radio technology by allowing dogmen to instantly alert crane operators to stop if something goes wrong.

“Safety is always our number one priority and with The Buddie System we have an innovative solution to a common safety issue on construction sites,” said Marr’s Managing Director, Simon Marr.

“What we love about it is its simplicity and the fact that it was designed by people who’ve worked on the tools and understand the real risks of crane and lifting operations,” said Simon.

The Buddie System was officially launched at the Crane Industry Council of Australia (CICA) Conference with Marr the first to trial the system in a live environment. With strong interest from crane owners and operators in Australia, the UK and other markets, Marr’s implementation on a large-scale infrastructure greenfield site and inner-city high-rise environment is paving the way for others in the industry to follow suit.

Sarens plays pivotal role in Canary Wharf installation

Sarens recently played a pivotal role in the installation of the Middle Dock Pedestrian Bridge in London’s iconic Canary Wharf district, contributing to the Eden Dock Activation project.

This is a key part of the area’s broader urban greening initiative. The bridge, which enhances access across the dock, now forms part of a series of floating terraces and landscaped public spaces designed to reconnect people with the water.

Working on behalf of Victor Buyck Steel Construction and under the direction of Canary Wharf Contractors, Sarens was responsible for the full mobilisation, load out, transport, and installation of the bridge. The structure itself is an impressive 56,3 metre long, 185T pedestrian bridge, moved from its assembly point at Park Place to its final position spanning the Middle Dock.

To carry out this complex operation, Sarens deployed two 5 axle TII KAMAG K2400ST SPMTs and a modular barge system made up of fifteen pontoon containers provided by MPS. As the Middle Dock is no longer connected to the River Thames, modular barges were the only suitable method. These were delivered by road in ten 40 foot and five 20-foot containers and assembled on site to form a barge measuring 30,5 by 12,2 metres.

One of the main challenges during planning was the height difference between the quay where the bridge was loaded out and the final installation location. Increasing the barge size or height was not an option due to space constraints, water depth, and quay levels. Sarens proposed lowering the water level in the dock by approximately one metre once the barge was in position. This required extra time but proved to be the most efficient solution. With support from the client, additional pumps were mobilised to lower the water over 48 hours, making the installation possible.

Once the barge was ready and the SPMTs assembled, the bridge was loaded out and transported across the dock with assistance from three small tugs — Theo, Geo, and Challis — supplied by Taska Marine. The voyage from Park Place to the installation location was conducted with precision, navigating confined spaces and maintaining close coordination throughout.

In total, 23 trucks transported all equipment to the site from across Europe. At peak, a dedicated crew of 13 managed operations, including the project manager, engineers, operators, and support staff from both Sarens and the client. Their combined efforts ensured the successful completion of a technically demanding operation.

With Sarens SMB barges unavailable, support from MPS was essential. Their team assisted not only with providing the modular pontoons but also with on site assembly. The final result is a new bridge that serves as both a practical connection and a visual centrepiece, enhancing the liveability and accessibility of one of London’s most dynamic neighbourhoods.

Rhenus expands UAE operations
