SEAGATE CORPORATION CO., LTD. (SGC), a consolidated subsidiary of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” LINE), officially concluded an agreement today with Kanagawa Dockyard Co., Ltd. (Kanagawa Dockyard) on the construction of an electric tugboat (EV tug, with EV standing for electric vessel) powered by a large-capacity lithium-ion battery.

SGC has discussed the detailed design of the tugboat with Kanagawa Dockyard and equipment manufacturers in accordance with the hybrid EV tug construction plan*1 announced in July 2022. The anticipated specifications have recently been achieved due to the downsizing of the tugboat’s equipment and the improvement of maintenance performance resulting from introduction of a newly developed domestic technology, leading to the construction agreement with Kanagawa Dockyard.

The tugboat will have a hybrid EV system incorporating many new technologies which have not previously been used in domestic tugboats into its drive motors, swing devices, current control systems and other components. It is equipped with a power generator to be used when the battery does not have enough remaining electricity during the operation of the electric propulsion system which is primarily powered by the lithium-ion battery. This significantly reduces the consumption of fossil fuels and the amount of carbon dioxide emissions compared to tugboats equipped with conventional main engines fueled by heavy oil. The project is highly regarded for its innovative technologies, leading to the decision to choose it to be a demonstration project linked to the 2025 subsidy for the rationalization of energy consumption and the shift to non-fossil energy in the transportation sector (a project promoting the innovative streamlining of coastal shipping and the shift to non-fossil sources of energy), provided by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The project will proactively seek to achieve the decarbonization of the coastal ship industry.

The tugboat is scheduled for completion in the latter half of 2027 and will be deployed at the Port of Tokuyama-Kudamatsu in Yamaguchi prefecture, which seeks to become the hub for the supply of clean energy as it sits in front of one of West Japan’s largest chemical complexes. The tugboat will facilitate the arrival and departure of ships at the port, and it will also engage in security operations, contributing to the establishment of a carbon neutral port (CNP).

Hellmann Worldwide Logistics and Siemens Smart Infrastructure are extending their established and reliable collaboration.

As of June 1, 2025, Hellmann has assumed the operational management of the global central warehouse for Siemens Smart Infrastructure in Nuremberg succeeding the previous service provider. Hellmann prevailed over various competitors in an extensive tender process, marking another milestone in the partnership between the two companies.

The Nuremberg facility serves as a global logistics hub for Siemens Smart Infrastructure. From here, production and commercial goods are stored and distributed to locations worldwide. The proximity to existing Hellmann locations creates operational synergies, enables flexible personnel deployment, and increases response speed in the supply chain. In addition, the site also meets all requirements for secure air freight handling and holds an established air security status.

The takeover of the Nuremberg location represents a natural progression in a long-standing partnership: For almost over ten years, Hellmann has been handling warehouse logistics for Siemens Smart Infrastructure in Bor, Czech Republic. This contract was recently extended for another five years following a positive collaboration.

HOPA Ports has taken action to help ensure the preservation and continued operation of the biodiesel facility in Hamilton previously operated by Biox.

Recognised for its strategic value, the Biox facility has operated on port lands for more than two decades, converting used cooking oil, animal fats, and seed oils into high-quality biodiesel. Over its lifespan, the plant has seen more than $70 million in investment. The plant has a production capacity of 67 million litres annually, supports 33 direct and 134 indirect jobs, and plays a vital role in Ontario’s energy autonomy.

Recent milestones have paved the way for the facility’s new chapter. On August 15th, HOPA Ports finalised an agreement with previous owners World Energy/Hartree, securing the plant assets, preventing the liquidation of essential equipment, and maintaining the plant’s ability to recommence operations. In parallel, HOPA is actively engaging with industry partners to identify a suitable operator capable of maintaining biodiesel production at this Hamilton facility.

Regulatory progress has bolstered the outlook for domestic biodiesel. The Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) has enacted a regulatory amendment to support the use of Canadian-produced biodiesel in provincial blending requirements. This change helps secure a viable, competitive future for local producers.

Additionally, it aligns with the Great Lakes fleet’s transition to marine biofuels and our “Buy Canada” goals.

The transformation of steel production towards greater sustainability is progressing worldwide.

The use of electric arc furnaces (EAFs) is considered a key technology for significantly reducing CO₂ emissions in the steel industry. One of the pioneers in this field is POSCO, South Korea’s largest steel producer. At its Gwangyang site in South Jeolla Province, POSCO is currently constructing a state-of-the-art EAF plant with a planned annual capacity of 2.5 million tonnes and is relying on transport technology from TII KAMAG. Commissioning is scheduled to begin in 2026.

For in-plant heavy-duty transport in the new steelworks, POSCO has chosen solutions from TII KAMAG. As part of the project, three specially developed vehicles were delivered: a more than 22-meter-long KAMAG Industrial Lift Transporter (IHT) with two underfloor driver’s cabins, designed for the safe transport of pallets carrying up to 500 tonnes of molten steel. With a payload capacity of 518 tonnes, it is among the most powerful solutions of its kind. The delivery is complemented by two KAMAG Slag Pot Carriers (SPC) in platform type, each offering a payload of 100 tonnes and intended for the efficient removal of slag.

The project was carried out in close collaboration with TII KAMAG’s long-standing local sales and service partner Kilwoo. This international cooperation ensures that POSCO not only receives high-performance vehicles but can also rely on dependable service during ongoing operations.

Sarens recently completed a remarkable cultural project in Woodlands, Texas, lifting and setting a 36,000 lb sculpture with precision and care.

The project, carried out between September 15–17, 2025, required not only technical expertise but also a deep respect for the sensitivity of the artwork.

The relocation of the sculpture is expected to enhance cultural engagement in the region, support the local arts economy, and attract visitors, providing a meaningful boost to surrounding businesses and community vitality.

From the earliest planning phase, Sarens’ team recognised the unique challenge: handling a valuable and delicate piece of art in a confined jobsite environment. Project Manager Larry Borque, together with Dispatcher George Ferguson, coordinated every step to ensure that the sculpture’s integrity remained uncompromised.

One Grove GMK 5150XL (150-tonne) All Terrain Crane, equipped with a 225’ main boom and 98,100 lbs of counterweights.
One Liebherr LTM 1070 (70-tonne) All Terrain Crane, with a 164’ main boom and 32,000 lbs of counterweights.
Both cranes were carefully selected to meet the weight and reach requirements of the project. Setup was completed in just two hours, demonstrating the efficiency of Sarens’ operational teams.

The lift was carried out by a crew of just three: one operator, one rigger, and a safety manager. Working in a confined space, they carefully attached the rigging slings and raised the sculpture into its new position. The operation required slow, deliberate movements to maintain artistic integrity and structural safety at all times.

“It was a beautiful project to be part of,” says Project Manager Larry Borque. “The challenge was making sure the artwork was handled with the utmost respect, and our team did exactly that.”

While Sarens is renowned worldwide for executing some of the most complex heavy-lift projects, this job highlights how the company’s expertise can also be applied to cultural and community-focused initiatives. By ensuring the safe relocation of a significant sculpture, Sarens has helped strengthen the region’s cultural identity and contributed to an enduring community landmark.

As of 10th of September, C. Hartwig Gdynia S.A. is rebranded to Rhenus, operating under the legal entity Rhenus Air & Ocean Poland S.A.

The company’s name change is the culmination of the process of fully integrating one of Poland’s oldest freight forwarding companies with the Rhenus Group, a global provider of logistics services.

The rebranding is a natural step resulting from the company’s acquisition by Rhenus Group in 2021, which has strengthened its global air and ocean network and expanded its presence in Eastern Europe. Rhenus Group now offers an extended range of ocean, air, intermodal and project transport services on the Polish market, as well as an extensive global operational footprint covering over 70 countries.

The integration is also accompanied by changes to the management board. Effective September 1st, Marek Kearney, who previously served as Chief Operating Officer and Sea Freight Director at C. Hartwig Gdynia for 9 years, will assume the position of Managing Director of Rhenus Air & Ocean Poland. Marek Klabacha, who has served on the company’s management board since 2023, will continue as part of the management. From 1 October 2025, the newly appointed Managing Director, Konstantin Perlitt, who previously served as Branch Manager at Rhenus in South Africa, will also join the company’s Management Board. The above changes result from the completion of the integration process.

DEME is expanding its fleet with a new Offshore Construction Vessel (OCV), strengthening its subsea cable installation capacity to meet the evolving global offshore wind market.

Designed for versatility, the vessel will be capable of executing trenching, burial, and cable-laying operations, complementing DEME’s existing cable installation vessels, Living Stone and Viking Neptun.

Based on the advanced Norwegian SALT 310 design, the 123-meter OCV will be equipped with a DP2 dynamic positioning system, a 150-ton active heave-compensated offshore crane, a hangar for two Work Class ROVs, a hybrid 1,000-kWh battery system, and a methanol-ready propulsion design for future fuel flexibility. Below deck, the vessel is configured to accommodate two 2,500-ton cable carousels, enabling swift deployment and seamless transitions between trenching, burial, and cable-laying operations. The vessel can accommodate up to 123 people.

Hansa Meyer Brazil are coordinating a monumental logistics project between Brazil and Saudi Arabia.

The project, of unprecedented proportions in the country, involved the transportation of 14 large-scale transformers manufactured by Hitachi Energy in Guarulhos to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Each unit weighs approximately 340tn and requires the use of one of the largest girder bridge trailer combinations ever operated in Brazil – 22 axle lines on each end, totalling about 136m in length and over 800tn of gross weight.
According to the Federal Highway Police, the combination of trailer and cargo is the largest in history to travel along the highway connecting São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

The first phase of the project was the movement of the first transformer covering approximately 390km to the Port of Itaguaí. The transport, which occupies an entire lane of the highway, was planned to minimise traffic disruption and ensure safety throughout the journey.

The operation quickly drew public attention and went viral on social media, in addition to receiving wide coverage from national media, reinforcing its historic significance for Brazilian logistics.

Throughout 2025 and 2026, another 13 units are being transported, consolidating the project as a milestone for the project logistics sector and for transport engineering in Brazil.
