Timeline manages complex machinery delivery

0

Timeline Logistics Solutions SAC, a Project Logistics Alliance member representing Peru, has once again demonstrated its capability in managing the transport of oversized equipment, even amid considerable challenges.

This latest operation required the lashing and on-time delivery of a massive machinery unit, nearly 5 meters in height, to a key client during an active inland truckers’ strike in Lima.

The initiative started at the Port of Callao, where Timeline Logistics Solutions received a special piece of equipment arriving from Asia in a 40-foot flat rack out-of-gauge (OOG) container. The machinery measured 4.72 meters in height, 4 meters in width, and weighed 19.3 metric tons. Due to the cargo’s substantial dimensions especially its width and height, the team opted to unload the equipment from the container, prioritizing safety and maneuverability.

The next critical step involved loading the cargo onto a specialized Lowboy truck, after which Timeline Logistics Solutions’ team expertly secured and lashed the machinery. Completing this procedure demanded patience and thorough consultation of technical schematics to ensure the unit was safely fastened for a long-distance journey.

The delivery covered 600 kilometers of overland transport to the client’s site. Multiple hurdles had to be addressed throughout the process. Managing cargo of this size required heightened coordination and meticulous planning to mitigate risks during handling and transit. Compounding the complexity was a citywide strike by truckers in Lima, which delayed the operational team and threatened to disrupt the delivery schedule.

A further challenge arose from Peruvian regulations prohibiting night transport of cargo taller than 4 meters, confining movement to daylight hours. Thanks to strategic timing and efficient execution, the team succeeded in departing Lima by 6:00 PM, just ahead of midnight onset of the strike.

Despite these obstacles, Timeline Logistics Solutions ensured the equipment reached its destination early the next day. The client commended the company for their professionalism and timely performance.

This project once again highlights Timeline Logistics Solutions’ expertise in handling complex, oversized shipments under adverse circumstances. The company’s commitment to planning, technical know-how, and effective response to external difficulties showcases its standing as a reliable partner for challenging logistics projects. Congratulations to the Timeline Logistics Solutions team for another exemplary delivery!

Norse Wind reaches significant milestone

0

The Norse Wind newbuild project has reached a significant milestone with the successful completion of its full height jacking test.

During this critical commissioning phase, the vessel’s leg was extended to its full length of 124 meters – approximately 91 meters above the seabed -demonstrating robust structural integrity and mechanical performance under simulated offshore conditions. This test is essential in validating the safety systems and alignment accuracy of the jacking equipment.

High standards were maintained throughout the preparation and execution of the test by GustoMSC, CIMC Raffles, and the DEME site team. Their commitment to safety, precision engineering, and collaboration was evident in the meticulous attention given to cleanliness, mechanical functionality, and system efficiency.

Norse Wind and its sister vessel Norse Energi are NG20000X-class WTIVs developed by GustoMSC. These state-of-the-art vessels have been designed to install wind turbines with rotor diameters measuring over 300 meters and XXL monopiles weighing up to 3,000 tons, even in water depths of up to 70 meters. Once operational, these vessels will be the most modern WTIVs in the industry.

The vessels Norse Wind and Norse Energi are expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2025 and early 2026 respectively, and they will feature the iconic DEME green hull.

Rhenus celebrates 100 years of Hanau

0

Hanau has been an important hub for regional and national logistics since 1925.

This year, one of the Rhenus Group’s oldest locations is celebrating its 100th anniversary – a milestone that has been marked with special events.

Hanau is one of the Rhenus Group’s most traditional locations. Several anniversary events were held to mark the occasion: First, there were boat trips on Rhenus’ own excursion boat, the Möwe, for customers. Separately, employees were also invited to take their own trips on the Möwe, followed by a party right at the port. The trips offered a special view of the port area from the water, and the employee event provided a social gathering in a summery atmosphere.

The Rhenus site in the port of Hanau is now a versatile logistics location with a direct rail connection and its own shunting locomotives. Fertilizers, building materials, minerals, metals, glass products, heavy goods and mineral residues are handled on approximately 80,000 m² of open storage space and 27,000 m² of covered storage space. Modern facilities for drying, screening, bagging, palletizing and silage complement the infrastructure. In addition to its storage and transshipment business, the site is characterized by its trade in building materials and power plant residues, as well as the production of blasting media.

“Madawaska Wind, the second of three projects awarded by Hydro-Quebec through its call for tenders, serves as a testament to the strength of our collaboration with Vestas,” said Tristan Grimbert, President and CEO of EDF power solutions North America. “As the Madawaska project moves forward, we are committed to leveraging these strong partnerships to continue to make a meaningful impact on Quebec’s energy future.”

Vestas is a leader in Canada’s onshore market, with an installed base of over 5 GW spanning all 10 provinces and a supply chain supported by more than 300 local suppliers. In Québec, Vestas currently services 428 MW of operating turbines and last year, announced a further 347 MW order that is currently under construction.

“Quebec presents unique logistical and execution challenges, but our long-standing, and growing, experience in the region means we’re well positioned to navigate them,” said Josh Irwin, Senior Vice President, Canada Onshore Sales, Vestas North America. “By bringing together local know-how and strong partnerships with regional stakeholders, we’re prepared to help bring this project to life while creating new economic opportunities for the province.”

As part of a shared commitment to strengthen local manufacturing and job creation, EDF power solutions and Vestas have partnered with Québec-based Marmen as the tower supplier, supporting 150 direct jobs in Matane.

“Marmen is proud to work with two industry leaders to highlight the importance of a Canadian-based supply chain amid strong market signals. We are ready to help mature this market alongside Vestas and EDF power solutions,” said Patrick Pellerin, President, Marmen.

Altius completes transportation to the Valle Solar plant

0

Altius has completed the second phase of the transportation of a 196-ton transformer to the Valle Solar Photovoltaic Plant.

After its arrival by sea from Shanghai to the port of Valencia, the cargo was transported by rail to Almansa and then moved by road in different stages to the substation in Ayora. One of the sections required a night operation with total traffic cut-off due to its technical complexity.

For installation, a gantry was used to unload the transformer onto a shoring system that allowed it to be accurately positioned on its foundation. Once in place, the operation was completed by crawling.

This type of logistics project requires a high level of planning and technical coordination.

Bilbao Port Authority invests in the Border Control Post

0

The Bilbao Port Authority is to invest 534,052 euros to replace the refrigeration equipment in the existing chambers and loading bays at the Border Control Post, including both the condensing units located on the roof and the evaporators inside the chambers and in the false ceiling of the building’s loading bays.

The company in charge of this refurbishment will be GIROA, S.A.U., having signed the corresponding contract resulting from the public tender.

The outdoor units will be reorganised in two rows close to the enclosure that forms the first floor on the roof, and the chambers will be equipped with temperature recorders and gas leak alarm detectors. The works are due to run for four months, with completion scheduled for October 2025.

The surface area available and the resources it provides for logistics makes the Border Control Post of the Port of Bilbao one of the most advanced among Spanish ports. It is divided into two separate areas: one, administrative, and the other, for inspection purposes. The large inspection area is equipped with 15 loading/unloading bays and resources for industrial cold storage, thermal insulation and easy-to-clean, resistant and durable finishes, designed to ensure optimum conditions for fruit and vegetable logistics at all times.

The Bilbao Border Control Post provides all the necessary authorisations for the control of products of animal and non-animal origin, animal feedstuffs, vegetables, plant products and wood and its products. The Port of Bilbao also uses a telematic platform (e-puertobilbao) for operational coordination between all the different players involved, including customs agents, inspectors from the corresponding inspection service, tax inspectors and transporters, thereby effectively providing a one-stop shop at the Border Control Post.
