Energy and marine consultancy ABL has been awarded a contract to provide marine warranty survey (MWS) services for the offshore transportation and installation operations relating to the Modular Offshore Grid 2 (MOG2) energy island project in the Belgian sector of the North Sea.

The contract has been awarded by Elia Group – the Belgium electric services company.

The MOG2 project aims to develop offshore grid infrastructure to connect new wind farms in the 3.5GW Princess Elisabeth zone, to the Belgian national grid via an energy hub located on an artificial island. By creating a new connection point for hybrid interconnectors, the island will help to optimise the cost of renewable energy production in the North Sea.

“The MOG2 project is a great project for Belgium and will be key in improving distribution and efficiency in power consumption from the North Sea’s increasing renewable energy sources.” Hugues Delanoue, Managing Director of ABL France.

ABL’s scope of work includes the review of all procedural documentation, vessel inspections to assess the suitability of the proposed fleet for transportation and installation (T&I) operations, and on-site attendance to assure operational compliance with the approved procedures. It will cover the T&I for the energy island (a concrete caisson foundation and port), HVAC and HVDC modules and export cables.

Belgium is one of the four EU countries that recently announced the target of increasing the joint offshore wind capacity to 120 GW by 2030, and to 300 GW by 2050. When built to full capacity, Belgium’s Princess Elisabeth wind farm zone will raise the country’s installed offshore wind capacity from the current 2.26 GW to 5.8 GW by 2030.

ABL’s team in France will manage the project supported by subject matter experts from the wider ABL Group. The company has not disclosed the value of the contract. The project is expected to last until 2030.

ABL, which is part of Oslo-listed ABL Group ASA, is an independent energy and marine consultancy specializing in solutions to de-risk and drive the energy transition across renewables, maritime and oil and gas sectors. Global Logistics Projects, our members from Switzerland, are glad to share a multimodal heavy lift transport they recently completed to Bilbao, Spain.

The cargo for this delivery involved a B6 tamping machine, which was measured at 31.7 (H) x 3.1 (W) x 5.2 (H) meters and featured a weight of approximately 139.25 tons.

It was picked up in Crissier, Switzerland by Global Logistics Projects with its destination site in Villada, Spain.

Unfavourable weather conditions created challenges for the company, with heavy rain leading to an almost two-hour delay in transit. Additionally, special instructions required the closure of the tram and bus lines throughout Lausanne the night before to facilitate the movement.

Global Logistics Projects made this delivery on DDP terms, excluding VAT, with unloading completed by two cranes on the railway tracks.

Huisman announces that it has been awarded a contract for the upgrade of the Offshore Mast Crane onboard the Aegir, owned by Heerema.

This significant project will enhance the second main hoist capacity from 2,000mt to an impressive 3,200mt at a height of 110 meters, making the upgrade highly suitable for the installation of large jacket foundations.

The upgraded crane for one of the world’s largest monohull crane vessels will feature a fixed jib section and a robust 3,200mt lower block and hook, providing Heerema with the advanced lifting capabilities required to excel in their upcoming projects.

The Aegir vessel, originally equipped with a 4,000mt Offshore Mast Crane by Huisman in 2013, has been a testament to the enduring quality and adaptability of Huisman’s technical solutions. In 2020, Huisman successfully upgraded the lifting capacity of the main hoist to 5,000mt.

R&B Global Projects, Project Logistics Alliance member representing Croatia and Serbia, flawlessly executed a challenging project move from Nuffield, East of Johannesburg, South Africa to the Adriatic port Rijeka, the final destination being Vares, Bosnia with the assistance of Afriguide Logistics, PLA member for South Africa.

The project involved the move of a dismantled re-agent plant, test-plant for substances presence, which consisted of hoppers, tanks, filters, control panels, gearboxes among others. All the parts were going into a container ship, and even though it is not the typical project type R&B usually works on, it was quite a complex challenge to get all the components on 6 x flatracks and 4 x usual containers.

Due to seamless collaboration among shippers and Afriguide Logistics, they successfully orchestrated a thorough two-month planning of the entire “puzzle.”

Despite numerous last-minute design changes to the components and the high congestion in Durban port at this time of the year, R&B and Afriguide Logistics managed to successfully pick up, stuff, shrink, pack, lash, and ship everything out in an exceptional manner, much to the satisfaction of the clients.

For the Hamburg crew at crane services company Fricke-Schmidbauer, the Tadano HK 4.070‑1 is the perfect fit – it’s like the crane was made for them.

“In the Greater Hamburg area, Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony, we handle pretty much every kind of lifting work up to 700 tonnes. So, we need versatile machines that can cover a lot of bases – and the HK 4.070‑1 is a prime example of the kind of all-rounders we need,” Fricke-Schmidbauer’s Hamburg branch manager Heiko Burmester commented on taking delivery of the crane from Tadano sales manager Hans Asam.

Burmester learned about the benefits of Tadano’s HK truck-mounted cranes during a demonstration of its smaller sibling HK 4.050‑1 two years ago. And he saw right away that these cranes were perfect for his needs. “From that point on, it was only a matter of time before we added an HK to our fleet,” he said. “The HK 4.070‑1 is ideal for city projects in and around Hamburg because of its extreme flexibility – the nationwide road permit means we can use it in a wide range of scenarios without major additional effort or cost.” For Burmester, the crane offers multiple flexibility benefits. For example, it can be used with or without counterweights and with or without a trailer. It can be set up in many different ways to support a wide range of requirements. And its axle configuration makes it both highly maneuverable and extremely stable – perfect for inner-city assignments.

To get the most out of the HK 4.070‑1 model’s extensive capabilities, Fricke-Schmidbauer ordered it trailer-ready and with a remote control, a 15-meter boom extension, and the full counterweight of 15.2 tonnes. “We also opted for the impressively low-weight Volvo chassis,” Burmester explained. All of this meant that the HK 4.070-1 was perfectly set up for a large project that Fricke-Schmidbauer had been planning for quite some time: the dismantling of an entire container facility in the northern German town of Buxtehude. As expected, the crane was more than a match for the job – just as it was for many smaller jobs in the 40-60 tonne range before that.

The Central Oceans teams in Europe and Asia started with the first shipments for a new project in the Philippines, after usefully completing a similar project a few months ago.

Central Oceans client was awarded the design and construction of another new drinking-water plant providing drinking water to an increasingly larger proportion of the population in Manila. Many homes in the Philippines do not have access to drinking water despite the abundance of water resources in the country. Once constructed, the plant will serve a population of 2,000,000 inhabitants and will have a capacity of 200,000 m³/day.

Central Oceans want to thank all parties involved and wish the teams involved a smooth execution of the project.

Shodesh Shipping are glad to share another shipment they have completed for the continued construction of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.

This shipment carried 3,244 MT, a total 934 packages, 11 containers as well as bulk cargo on a breakbulk vessel and 193 vehicles altogether! M.V. Saopdilla arrived at Mongla Seaport from St. Petersburg, Russia.

Shodesh covered a working scope of customs arrangements, port transmit permissions, transportation from Mongla to Rooppur, unloading at the jobsite and finally customs clearance at Rooppur.

The consignee for this delivery was the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) – an important organisation at the forefront of the power plant’s construction. Subcontractors included Volgodonsk MU, Eleron Special Research and Production Association, Federal Center of Science And High Technologies, JSC, Energospetsmontazh Joint-Stock Company and JSC Atomstroyexport.

Energy and marine consultancy ABL has opened an office at Batam in Indonesia to support the significant offshore and maritime operations that take place on an off the island.

The Batam office will be managed by ABL’s Indonesia’s head office, located in the capital of Jakarta. Day-to-day operations will be coordinated with the ABL Offshore Director in Singapore.

In total, ABL Indonesia has over 25 specialist consultants in maritime and offshore oil and gas disciplines. The new office is located at Graha Pena Batam, 8th Floor Jln Raya Batam Center – Teluk Tering Kec. Batam City.

This is the next exciting step in growing our operations in the country to the strategically important fabrication hub of Batam. KGE Baltic are pleased to report another very interesting multimodal project which they recently completed.

The company were nominated to transport a Schlumberger oil & gas mobile pump from South Kazakhstan to Dammam, Saudi Arabia.

The unit itself was measured at 10.50 (L) x 3.00 (W) x 4.20 (H) meters and featured a weight of 33,000 kilograms!

Loaded on a low-bed truck in Kazakhstan, the mobile pump was a multimodal transport; delivered to a port in Turkiye before travelling by vessel via Egypt to Dammam.

KGE reports the total transit time at around 25-35 days including border crossings.

Total Movements, member to the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) in India, successfully executed a Door-to-Port movement of 8 pieces, total 1200 freight tons, of ODCs from the supplier’s works in India to the designated discharge port.

A company spokesperson stated: “Road transportation from the supplier’s works to the load port, export custom clearance and ocean freight of the Breakbulk cargo from India to South America involved our scope.

The following were the features of this shipment: Arranging specific trailers as per the cargo’s specifications in no time; An extremely time-bound shipment; Design of lifting plan in close coordination with the supplier; Booking a suitable vessel for shipping the Breakbulk cargo saving the transit time of nearly a month.

Notwithstanding the narrow delivery window, the ODCs were delivered to their destination promptly and in compliance with all safety standards.”

HAROPA PORT and VERSO ENERGY signed an agreement for the installation of a plant to produce low-carbon hydrogen and synthetic fuels on HAROPA PORT land in Grand-Quevilly.

This production plant will be set up on an area of land belonging to HAROPA PORT | Rouen in the town of Grand-Quevilly at the administrative boundary with Petit-Couronne. This development project will help both secure and expand the local industrial ecosystem. The facility is projected to come on stream by 2029.

The project is slated to produce hydrogen by water electrolysis and will be capable of providing capacity of 350MW, corresponding to an annual volume of more than 50,000 tonnes of hydrogen, in return for an investment of around €500m. It is to be accompanied by a plant producing synthetic fuels using captured, recycled CO2, and creating some 150 direct and 250 indirect jobs. The project will contribute in this way to decarbonising industrial sites in the port area and the maritime and aviation sectors, in which demand for sustainable fuels can be seen to be increasing significantly.

The new production plant has strategic importance for HAROPA PORT and generally for the Rouen port community. This is so because it will help sustain a dynamic that is driving industrial development and renewal centred on the technologies and forms of production of the future as components of the energy transition and decarbonisation of industrial activities across the region. Ports are faced with major issues arising from decarbonisation for which decarbonised hydrogen will increasingly be an essential resource. There are numerous use cases for hydrogen in port ecosystems, ranging from freight handling to maritime transport, and including road and rail mobility.

Dominique Ritz, deputy CEO of HAROPA PORT, and Antoine Huard, CEO of Verso Energy, signed the site occupancy agreement at the local regional offices of HAROPA PORT | Rouen, most notably in the presence of Jean-Benoît Albertini, the Prefect of Seine-Maritime, Thierry Coquil, head of the directorate for infrastructure, transport and mobility (DGITM), Nicolas Rouly, mayor of Grand-Quevilly and vice-chair of the Rouen Normandy urban district authority, Aline Louisy-Louis, vice-chair of Normandy’s Regional Authority, and Olivier Morzelle, head of the regional directorate for local development and housing (DREAL).
