CEVA transports Eiffela Broken Dream to Burning Man

0

CEVA Logistics (CEVA), a global leader in third-party logistics, today announced that it has successfully transported Eiffela Broken Dream, a monumental art installation by French artist Philippe Maindron, from France to the United States for its debut at Burning Man, the iconic arts and culture event held in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert from August 30 to September 7.

The large-scale installation depicts a fractured Eiffel Tower, measuring 30 meters long and 15 meters high, built from 29 tons of steel. Created in Rochetrejoux in France’s Vendée region, Eiffela Broken Dream was disassembled and shipped in two open-top containers and two equipment containers. CEVA managed the international logistics from western France to Nevada.

“Eiffela Broken Dream is the realization of a project I have imagined for years, and seeing it come to life has been an extraordinary human and artistic experience,” said Philippe Maindron, artist and creator of Eiffela Broken Dream. “I chose to fracture the Eiffel Tower in two to explore the tension between collapse and hope. The lower section evokes the remains of a lost civilization, while the soaring upper section reaches toward the sky as a symbol of resilience and the possibility of a brighter future. It was designed to be dismantled, transported, and rebuilt, but that does not make the journey simple. It is a complex structure with many numbered elements, and every detail matters. To bring it from France to Burning Man, I needed a logistics partner I can trust to handle the work with care and precision.”
In true Burning Man style, Eiffela Broken Dream is more than just a sculpture, it is an immersive performance. A cable stretches high above the desert across each half of the tower, where a tightrope walker is expected to cross between the fractured peaks, bringing the installation to life.

Transport began on May 6, when the artwork left Rochetrejoux by truck for the Port of Le Havre. The containers departed Le Havre by ocean vessel on May 14 and arrived at the Port of Oakland on June 25. After unloading the containers in Oakland, CEVA subsequently transported the installation by road to Reno, Nevada, before the final move to the Burning Man site. CEVA is responsible for the full scale of multimodal logistics, including the initial international sea transport, handling import-export customs formalities.

“Transporting Eiffela Broken Dream requires the same discipline and coordination CEVA brings to complex industrial and event logistics worldwide,” said Jesús Rogelio Garza, Head of Ground and Rail – North America, CEVA Logistics. “This is not standard freight; it is a 29-ton work of art with a fixed delivery window and the need to arrive in pristine condition. Our teams across two continents coordinated a multimodal solution including road transport, ocean freight, customs clearance, and delivery so the artist can rebuild and present his experience at Burning Man.”

This project demonstrates CEVA’s ability to manage highly specialized logistics for culturally significant, time-sensitive, and technically demanding shipments. In addition to Eiffela Broken Dream, CEVA and its parent company, CMA CGM Group, also orchestrated the transatlantic transport of another iconic masterpiece from France to Washington, D.C. The nine-foot bronze Statue of Liberty was produced from the 1878 plaster original of Auguste Bartholdi.

Balena reports another successful project

0

Balena Projects are pleased to report another successful project.

This challenge involved the transportation of agricultural machinery from Marshfield, WI, to the Port of Baltimore, MD.

The shipment required careful planning and coordination to ensure the equipment was moved safely and efficiently from origin to port. The Balena Projects team managed trucking operations, terminal handling, and customs clearance as part of the overall scope. Each stage was coordinated to ensure the cargo was properly prepared and delivered to the port in line with the project requirements.

“With agricultural machinery requiring careful handling and attention to its specific transportation needs, the shipment was planned to ensure a smooth movement from pickup through to port delivery. The project reflects our experience in handling specialized equipment and delivering practical, well-coordinated logistics solutions for different types of cargo.”

COLI Group completes six-month project for GE Vernova

0

COLI Group has recently completed a six-month transport project for GE Vernova, moving 14 large power transformers from GE Vernova’s Turkish factory to a job site in Poland supporting the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm.

The cargo was shipped across three voyages on three separately chartered vessels, and the project marks the second collaboration between COLI and GE Vernova’s team in Poland.

The transformers were picked up at GE Vernova’s factory and loaded at Safiport in Derince, Türkiye. Ten units, ranging from 110 to 170 tonnes each, were offloaded at the port of Gdynia and transported onward by land to the job site. The remaining four transformers, each weighing 361 tonnes, were barged to Władysławowo, where a complex roro operation had to be carried out. Also, a temporary storage area was set up at Władysławowo while the job site itself was being prepared to receive the units.

The onward land transport of the heavy transformers presented a series of legal, technical and logistical challenges. Several existing bridges along the route were unable to carry the weight of the cargo, requiring a temporary flyover structure to be mounted on top of the existing infrastructure. The operation also had to be coordinated closely with multiple local Polish authorities, and carried out through harsh winter conditions, with temperatures dropping to -15°C.

Can Yılbaşı, Business Development Manager, COLI Istanbul, says: “We are very proud of our team and partners to have concluded this special and complex in a successful manner and I want to thank GE Vernova’s team for their trust. Thanks to the flexibility and close cooperation on both sides, we were able to overcome every obstacle along the way and deliver, as we say, a solution beyond the ordinary.”

Felix Peinemann, Managing Director of COLI Group, says: “I am very proud of our team and this project. Moving 14 large and heavy units to the same site in 3 months in challeging conditions is not something any freight forwarder does every day. A key reason that the project came to a succesful conclusion can be found in the combined efforts of people and locations in the COLI Group; that really brings out the value for our clients”.

For COLI, the project represents a significant milestone: it’s the second time working directly with GE Vernova’s team in Poland, and a contribution to Baltica 2: a 1.5 GW offshore wind farm being developed by PGE Group and Ørsted in the Polish Baltic Sea. Scheduled for commissioning in 2027, Baltica 2 will be Poland’s largest-ever renewable energy investment, featuring 107 wind turbines with the capacity to power over 2.4 million households.
