Go Gauge Logistics are pleased to update us on one of their recent successful breakbulk shipments, which travelled from China to India.

This transport comprised of six units, which made up a total 600 CBM of project cargo, and was seamlessly delivered from Bayuquan, China, to Kolkata, India.

The project demanded meticulous planning, from cargo handling at the port of origin to ensuring timely delivery at the destination.

Mammoet is supporting one of the largest nuclear power plants in the world, Bruce Power, through its Major Component Replacement projects in Ontario, Canada.

The MCR projects began in January 2020 to replace major components within six reactor units (Units 3-8) across two stations, Bruce A and B. During regular operation these stations power more than 30 per cent of the province and produce cancer-fighting medical isotopes.

These significant refurbishment projects form part of a larger Life-Extension program which began in 2016 to extend the site’s life to 2064. Being Ontario’s largest private sector clean-energy initiative, the Life-Extension program will provide clean, sustainable and reliable energy to contribute to Canada’s climate targets.

Working with the Steam Generator Replacement Team, comprising of Aecon, United Engineers & Constructors and Framatome, Mammoet is supporting the removal and installation of 90 tonne steam generators.

To access and replace 16 of Bruce A’s steam generators, SGRT must first lift and temporarily store 300-tonne steam drums. Mammoet’s PTC-35 ring crane – one of the world’s highest capacity land-based cranes – is on site to undertake all of this work.

Other specialist Mammoet equipment will continue to be in use for on-site movements and replacement of heat exchangers, electrical equipment, and transformers.

Following completion of the first MCR project of Unit 6 in Bruce B, work began on Unit 3 at Bruce A. The Unit 4 refurbishment at Bruce A begins in February and the remaining three units will follow.

Energy and marine consultancy ABL has been awarded a new contract to provide marine warranty survey (MWS) services to support the offshore construction of Iberdrola’s 315 MW Windanker offshore wind farm, offshore Germany.

ABL Germany, based in Hamburg, will provide MWS services to support the offshore transportation and installation (T&I) campaign relating to the foundations, inter-array cables and wind turbine generators (WTGs). Its scope of work includes the provision of expert technical review and approval of documents, operations and vessels relating to the warranted assets.

The Windanker project is a major offshore wind farm in Germany located in the Baltic Sea about 25 kilometres offshore. It consists of 21 15MW WTGs, with a combined capacity of 315MW. The installation activities are scheduled for 2025 and 2026, with project commissioning expected by the end of 2026.

“Our main role is to help minimise risk and to ensure that offshore operations are conducted safely and efficiently. We have an extensive track-record of supporting offshore wind farm projects, and we will apply this know-how to the Windanker project.” Continues Klappenbach.

In the German offshore wind market alone, ABL and its sister company OWC has a project involvement track-record of over 20 offshore wind farms and a combined capacity of over 9GW to date.

Kalmar has concluded a significant agreement to supply APM Terminals in Tangier, Morocco with a further 20 Kalmar hybrid straddle carriers.

The units will be deployed at APM Terminals MedPort Tangier. The order was booked in Kalmar’s Q3 2024 order intake, with delivery of the units staggered across Q2 and Q3 of 2025.

Opened in 2019, APM Terminals MedPort Tangier is a transshipment terminal located at the Tanger Med 2 port complex. The terminal serves the major shipping routes between Europe, Africa, the Americas and the Far East and complements the APM Terminals Tangier facility at the Tanger Med 1 port complex.

Tanger Med 2 currently operates a fleet of 65 Kalmar straddle carriers. Kalmar will assume responsibility for the integration of the new machines with the customer’s terminal operating system via Kalmar One software, complemented by professional services, maintenance and support.

Wind propulsion leader Norsepower and esteemed shipping company IINO Kaiun Kaisha, Ltd. (IINO LINES) have completed the installation of two Norsepower Rotor Sails (NPRS) on the Oceanus Aurora, a Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC) chartered by Borealis, a leading provider of advanced and sustainable polyolefins solutions.

In Europe, Borealis is also an innovative leader in polyolefins recycling and a major producer of base chemicals.

The VLGC Oceanus Aurora has been outfitted with two custom designed NPRS. These units, measuring 20m tall and 4m in diameter, have been tailored to meet the vessel’s precise air draught limits.

The Norsepower Rotor Sail is a modernized version of the Flettner rotor. Utilizing a small amount of electricity to spin cylindrical sails on the deck, the NPRS harnesses wind and the Magnus effect to generate powerful thrust. This innovative product bolsters the main propulsion, resulting in reduced fuel consumption, emissions, and fuel costs.

Oceanus Aurora sails between Houston, USA and Stenungsund, Sweden or Porvoo, Finland. Norsepower calculates that the NPRS will reduce the vessel’s fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by approximately 4%, aligning with international emissions reduction targets, including the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII), and mitigating rising fuel costs.

The Oceanus Aurora, a dual fuel LPG ship, was delivered in March 2023 from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd in Korea (today, Hanwha Ocean Co., Ltd.), with the foundations for the Norsepower Rotor Sails already in place. The installation of the units took place in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, at the beginning of November 2024.

Blommer Chocolate Co., a US rival, is expanding in Ontario while it shutters an 85-year-old Chicago plant. Oreo-maker Mondelez International Inc. says it has invested $250 million in Ontario manufacturing facilities just in the last few years.

In tandem with International Men’s Day, Movember takes center stage throughout November. Movember is a global movement that originated in Australia, encouraging men to grow mustaches during November to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, particularly prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention.

Both Movember and International Men’s Day share common goals of promoting men’s health and challenging societal norms surrounding masculinity. By participating in these events you can show you support the well-being of men and boys in various ways. Here are some ways to get involved: Promote Men’s Health: Encourage men to prioritize their physical and mental health by seeking medical advice and support when needed; Advocate for Gender Equality: Challenge harmful stereotypes and behaviors that affect both men and women, promoting an inclusive society; Support Positive Masculinity: Celebrate positive male role models, embracing emotions and vulnerabilities as part of a healthy masculinity; Movember Participation: Engage in Movember by growing a mustache, raising funds, or participating in Movember-related events to support men’s health causes.

As part of our health focus in November, we have raised awareness of men’s mental and physical health. We also presented the ALEC model – Ask, listen, encourage action, and check in, as caring and being there for your friends can be lifesaving. Additionally, we raise awareness of Prostate Cancer to spread this important subject among our colleagues.

The agreement, which was signed at the AECC headquarters by Andreu Gutiérrez, Country Sales Director for Road at Rhenus Spain, commits the logistic specialist to act as a communication channel and share AECC’s campaigns with its employees, partners, customers and suppliers, while also promoting research, prevention and early detection of cancer.

Rhenus will therefore actively participate in the association’s campaigns and carry out the necessary dissemination activities to publicise association events and activities. For its part, the AECC will provide the logistics expert with materials for internal campaigns and the content of preventive measures to facilitate their communication. Rhenus has also agreed to take part in events organised by the association and to give informative talks in its business area.

Andreu Gutiérrez highlights the importance of the partnership: “We are proud to join forces with the Spanish Association Against Cancer to support this important cause. At Rhenus, we believe that companies have a responsibility to contribute to efforts that make a real difference in society. AC Project & Forwarding SL and Modus Logistics Management, members of the Project Logistics Alliance representing Spain and Greece respectively, recently completed a challenging project involving the transport of three liquefied natural gas (LNG) cryogenic tanks.

The tanks began their journey in Portugal and were shipped to the Port of Piraeus near Athens before being transported to Central Greece. Each tank weighed 38 tons and measured 18.9m x 3.5m x 3.7m. This complex move required careful route planning, meticulous coordination, and specialized equipment to ensure a safe and timely delivery.

The successful transportation of these LNG cryogenic tanks by AC Project & Forwarding and Modus Logistics Management showcases the expertise and collaboration among Project Logistics Alliance members. EZ Link are glad to share their recent handling of transformers via heavy lift vessel from Taiwan to the United States.

The dimensions of the cargo measured 8.55 (L) x 4.55 (W) x 4.70 (H) metres each, with a weight of 1,360,000 kilograms.

EZ Link’s project team committed to handling two sets of transformers, both loaded shipside onto the designated vessel seamlessly.

The company monitored all loading procedures, including: Longshoremen forklift operations; Truck drivers handling SPMT; Stevedores overseeing movement of cargo onto vessel; Vessel operator monitoring lashing, dunnage, wedging, bracing & blocking.
