Sarens, the global leader in crane rental services, heavy lifting, and engineered transport, successfully executed the SOFIA OCP Jacket and Topside Weighing and Loadout project.

This project, in partnership with RWE & GE and managed by Seatrium, took place at the Seatrium Yard in Batam, Indonesia. The Loadout campaign spanned from May 25, 2024, to June 15, 2024.

The project centred around the Offshore Converter Platform (OCP), crucial for the HVDC electrical system of the Sofia Offshore Windfarm. The OCP converts energy from wind turbines into direct current (DC) power and transmits it to shore. This supports the windfarm at Dogger Bank in the southern North Sea, capable of generating up to 1200 MW of green energy.

Sarens provided a complete package of services, including manpower, engineering, mooring winches, weighing equipment, and 524 axles with 18 PPU Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs) for the weighing and loadout.

The project’s highlight was transporting and loading the massive OCP Topside (14.000 tonnes, 57 meters high) and the OCP Jacket (5.250 tonnes, 51 meters high). To date, the move is the heaviest of a topside in Southeast Asia, and historically, one of the heaviest to have ever been performed in the world. The sheer size and weight posed significant challenges. Despite disruptions in the Red Sea, Sarens’ expert logistics team ensured timely delivery and maintenance of all equipment.

With 28 crew members at peak, the team navigated challenges, including the rainy season’s impact on ground preparation, ensuring project success.

This project showcases Sarens’ unparalleled expertise in handling large-scale, complex transport and loadout operations. Selected for its international experience and long-standing client relationship since 2021, Sarens overcame logistical hurdles to deliver a successful project.

Sarens’ performance reaffirms its position as a trusted partner in heavy lifting and transport, capable of delivering exceptional results in the most demanding conditions.
