Sarens, renowned globally for its expertise in heavy lifting and engineered transport, successfully completed the Kiln Changeout project at the Golden Triangle site in Port Arthur, Texas. This project, undertaken for the replacement of a large industrial kiln, highlights Sarens’ commitment to precision, safety, and efficiency in complex lifting operations.
The primary objective of this project was to remove the old kiln and install a new one, ensuring continued operations and improved efficiency at the facility. The new kiln, measuring 91 feet in length and 6 feet in diameter, and weighing 122,000 pounds, was essential for the client’s operational upgrade. The entire process was meticulously planned and executed to minimise downtime and disruption.
Sarens was selected for this project due to its competitive pricing and proven track record with the client. The project required careful planning and execution in an extremely tight area, with safety being the top priority. Specific site training was conducted to ensure all team members were prepared for the unique challenges of the project location.
The project commenced on May 26, 2024, and concluded successfully on May 31, 2024. Utilising the LTM 1400 crane, configured with 264,600 pounds of counterweight, Sarens was able to lift and place the new kiln with precision. The crane, chosen for its optimal lift capacity, performed exceptionally well, with its smooth motion being a key factor in the project’s success. Charlie Morris, Project Manager at Sarens, remarked, “The Kiln Changeout project was a great success due to our meticulous planning and the excellent performance of our team and equipment. We’re proud to have completed this project efficiently and safely, meeting all the client’s expectations.”
The logistical aspect of the project was handled with utmost efficiency. The crane was transported to the site and assembled the day before the lift. Despite the confined space, the crane setup was completed without any significant issues. The old kiln was cut into two pieces for easier removal, while the new kiln was installed in a single pick. This strategic approach minimised the complexity of the operation.
Over the course of the project, a crew of five Sarens team members ensured that the lifts were executed safely and efficiently. The weather conditions were favourable, further contributing to the smooth progress of the project.
The Kiln Changeout project not only highlights Sarens’ capability to handle complex industrial projects but also shows the company’s dedication to delivering high-quality results under challenging conditions. The successful completion of this project is a testament to the skill and commitment of the Sarens team, as well as the advanced capabilities of their equipment.
